Monterey 2015, Lot F82 It is difficult to imagine a more well-preserved example of Chevrolets 1969 Corvette convertible than this repeat winner of both Bloomington Gold and NCRS accolades. Like the other Corvettes in the Ed Foss Collection, it is virtually unrivaled in its originality in all four judged categories, due in equal parts to its low mileage and a history of exceptional care.
Looking factory-fresh even to the studied eye of the most discriminating judge, this 1969 Corvette convertible is unrestored and shows an odometer reading of 5,723 original miles. The Cortez Silver paint and exterior chrome and brightwork are exactly as they were when the car rolled off the assembly line, the Black soft top showing only the slightest hint of the passing years. The pristine engine compartment is home to the storied L71 427 big-block V-8 engine. Built by the Number 1 Team at the Tonawanda, New York, engine assembly plant, the Tri Power-equipped L71 unleashes 435 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque through a required 4-speed manual transmission to a 3.55:1-geared Positraction differential. Complementing that mix are K66 Transistor Ignition, F41 Special Suspension and power steering and brakes. Riding on three-piece Rally wheels wearing F70-15 Whitewall tires, it also offers Soft Ray-tinted glass and an AM/FM radio. Documented with the tank sticker, window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, owners card, copy of the original title, service receipts, owners manual and the original keys, the cars exceptional originality is reflected in its top-tier credentials, most of which it earned in a single year. Imagine winning Bloomington Gold Benchmark, Survivor and Gold Certification and an NCRS Regional Top Flight Award, the latter with a score of 97.8, then following those in quick succession with the NCRS 4-Star Bowtie Award and the Chevy Vettefest Triple Crown, all in the 2001 calendar year.
