DESCRIPTION: Feast your eyes on a rare piece of automotive art. This two-tone (silver/dark blue) 1981 Corvette has only 34K original miles and has been lovingly pampered all it's life. The paint hardly even has a chip or scratch in it. However, the front and rear bumper's clear coat is dull and has stress lines. The alloy wheels look very good and the Goodyear Eagle tires are like new all around. This car has a beautifully maintained interior with soft, yet form fitting cloth seats, gray plush carpeting and a dash that has no cracks and fits together perfectly. The radio works and so do the gauges, power windows, locks, antenna, and more. This car drives very nice and sure-footed with a decidely "old-school" Corvette feel. It is a blast to drive and even though the horsepower is low compared to today's muscle cars, this Vette will still fly when you want it to. Mechanically, this Vette has been very well maintained, but it does have a couple issues. The left headlight is slow to come up and won't go down without some help. The engine runs rough at idle. The downside to super-low mileage is that things can get gummed up and rubber may deteriorate. The engine does run great when the car is moving, but has a noticeable miss-fire when it idles. This is most likely a fuel delivery issue in the carb. Although, the engine may just need a through tune-up with new plugs, wires, etc. When this Vette was traded-in it had a check-engine light on due to the miss-fire. We reset the check-engine light and it hasn't return yet even though we have put some miles on the car. About the engine...the VIN decoders we have been able to find on the internet denote that this car has an L82 (210HP) engine, but we see no decals on the car that say that. However, the decals we do see also don't say that this car has the standard L81 (190HP) engine either. So, based on the VIN (specifically the number "6" in the eighth position) this car has an L82, but we do not guarantee that. The 700R automatic transmission works great going through the gears, but there is a noticeable bit of slippage when it drops into overdrive. We checked the fluid and topped it off and the problem went away a little, but it still slips some. The transmission probably could benefit from a total service job, but worst case...it may need to be replaced. We cannot be sure without getting in to it and we aren't going to do that for this auction. However, the car runs and drives great when you drive it normally and don't make it go into overdrive. Cosmetically, this 1981 Corvette is in very good condition overall. The only paint blemishes are: Some dull paint and clear-coat on the rear, and to a lesser extent, front bumper. Other than that, there are two small paint chips on the left headlight cover and a medium size chip on the right door. The dark blue decal on the hood is a little faded, but still looks good. The rest of the paint looks very good all over. The alloy wheels look very good, but could look perfect with a good polishing. The tires are like new. The mirrored t-tops are in excellent condition. This car really does look very nice on the exterior. Inside, the only problems are: some ill-fitting carpeted side panels on the transmission tunnel's center console (common problem), some chrome plating chipped off the driver's door panel, some light carpet stains in the driver's footwell, a few tiny chips on some black painted surfaces, a worn spot on the driver's floor mat, a crack in the plastic trim at the top of the windshield frame, some grease on the driver's seatbelt, a drooping driver's sunvisor, a center A/C vent that is hard to move, some loose bolts on the driver's seat, a crack in the A/C duct work by the driver's knees, and some buzz in the speakers with heavy bass tones.
