| 1969 CORVETTE BB DART 540" M22 Factory AC. Originally a big block, stick shift, AC car. Orig drivetrain long gone before i owned it. Toyed with finding correct date code engine & so forth, but all that time & money, it still won't be numbers matching, not to mention a 40 year old block bored to who knows what. Since i've owned it, just over 2 years: new dart 540 cu in block, eagle 4340 crank & H rods, forged flat top 10/1 pistons (runs great on 91), edelbrock RPM aluminum heads & intake, H2O pump, comp full hyd roller cam 570/280 & rockers (very nice manageable lope), demon 850 carb, MSD ignition & mech tach, jet hot coated hooker side pipes (currently have glasspack muffler inserts out), way more fun at shows, but can/will reinstall. Zoom kevlar clutch, autogear aftermarket muncie cased M22 with wide ratio gears (ROCKCRUSHER), 3.08 posi installed, 3.55 in box with ecklers kevlar HD kit goes with(BB rear also). Steeriods power rack & pinion conversion...VBP (vette brakes products) full max suspension kit, poly springs, new arms, fully adjustable heim joints, bigger sway bars(F&R), bilstiens, all 4 spindles/brakes new lines/master cyl ect...replaced radiator with stock BB rad. Can sit at idle in 100+ heat, RUNS ICE COLD, remember a new motor designed to be 540", not a tired old chevy. Paint is about 10 years old, an awsome 10 footer, typical stress cracks on tops of front fenders & on hood, (which by the way is a correct L88 style with the correct L88 induction & sealing air cleaner) not ready for a repaint yet...interior very good driver quality, seats, carpets, dashpad nice, console fitting to dash not perfect. Never put gear in trans tail, so speedo not hooked up. i drive by the tach. Belt has not been on the AC comp since i've owned it. Never driven in rain. Lotta heat coming off the 8 big tubes under your feet. horsepower??? i'd guess 600+ being conservative. Huge torque numbers i'm sure. I've accidently started the car in 3rd a few times. it just jumps forward & goes. You can idle it down in 4th to 1000 rpm & just drive it away. No pinging/knocking. Car is fun to DRIVE, although can be a handful if your not carefull. Does very well at local shows. Open header or not, a real crowd pleaser. Most people who see & hear it, say it's the best sound they've heard in a long time. Paint from the owner. 71,000 miles. May 16, 2009. |
