Car history:
Lots of horsepower and lots of options, this 1970 Corvette roadster delivers. Packing a strong-running small block and a 4-speed, this is the Sting Ray for the guy who loves to drive his Corvette. Forget trailer queens, this is a car you won't be able to resist on the road. Restored using the code 974 Monza Red instead of the original code 982 Donnybrooke Green, there's just nothing like a bright red Sting Ray to attract attention. I don't care who you are or where you go, there's just no way you'll be missed in this car. The bodywork is quite straight, the paint is glossy and deep, and it has that look of a Corvette that has been enjoyed, but never abused. The way the light plays over those voluptuous fenders in an unbroken curve is proof that someone invested a good amount of time getting everything straight, and the smooth, shiny finish is evidence of excellent care since the restoration was completed. It isn't perfect and there are a few bumps and nicks here and there, but if you like to drive, this car definitely has the right look. A black accent on the hood adds some definition, which, while not stock, actually looks like it should have been there from the beginning. Bright chrome bumpers add some jewelry, along with the new-for-1970 egg crate grills up front and on the front fenders, and aftermarket bullet-shaped taillights give it a more modern look.
Code 400 black vinyl buckets have been fitted with non-stock cloth inserts, but combined with 1970's newly contoured buckets that offered improved lateral support, they hold you in place far better than before. The seats remain in decent condition, giving the interior a welcoming, casual look that says, Let's go for a ride! Slide behind the wheel and your hand falls naturally to the 4-speed's shifter, and as your eyes roam over the interior, you notice details like the upgraded AM/FM radio with remote-controlled CD changer, fiber-optic lamp monitoring system, and the spec plaque right there on the console. The gauges are in above-average condition, with the tach showing a 5500 RPM redline and all the auxiliary gauges work. Overhead, there's a black convertible top that fits well and has a crystal clear rear window.
The engine is a very strong 350 cubic inch V8, rated at 350 horsepower so it's definitely no slouch in the performance department. Expertly rebuilt and dressed for show, it cackles to life with an awesome rumble from the Flowmasters out back, and looks like a performance engine bathed in Chevy Orange paint with chrome tinwork. An upgraded MSD ignition system and braided stainless hose sleeves dress up the engine bay, along with an Edelbrock carburetor and intake for performance. Underneath, it's quite clean, with clean floors and no modifications save for the aforementioned Flowmasters. There's evidence that this car has always been well-maintained, with quite a few new pieces underneath, which means that driving is what this Corvette does best. For a correct look, it rolls on Rallys wearing 225/70/15 white-letter radials and spinner center caps. 43,211 miles from the odometer. $26,995. November 15, 2014.
