Car history:
This 1969 Riverside Gold 454 ci/465hp Corvette convertible is a truly exceptional vehicle. It is an absolutely stunning Corvette “muscle machine”, with an interesting history. The car was built October 23, 1968 with the optional L89 aluminum head 427/435 hp engine, M21 close –ratio 4 speed transmission, F41 special suspension, N14 side-mounted exhaust, K66 full-transistor ignition, , G81 positraction axle, with 411:1 ratio, A01 soft-ray tinted glass, A82 head restraints, J2A front fender louver trim, U69 AM/FM pushbutton radio, PT7 F70X15 white strip tires and C07 an auxiliary hardtop. This car was built as a no-frills speed machine.
The car was purchased on November 20, 1968 from Ed Smith Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Port Jervis, New York, for a price of $6,285.45, including 2% New York state sales tax. To complete the transaction, the original purchaser traded in a 1966 Blue Corvette coupe. While still under factory warranty, the L89 engine failed and General Motors shipped and instructed Ed Smith Chevrolet-Oldsmobile to install an LS7(454ci/465hp) engine in place of the original damaged L89 engine. This is the engine Chevrolet intended to offer as an optional engine for the 1970 Corvette, but decided against, because of its excessive power. The original tri-power carburetor and intake manifold were reinstalled on the LS7 block and a G.M. L88 hood was installed for greater air flow. The original owner owned the car until 1990, when he sold the car locally to the second owner. The second owner owned the car until September 2004, when the current owner purchased the car, with 70,827 documented miles. Upon taking ownership, the current owner delivered the car to the Corvette Shop in Montgomery, New York for a first rate Body-On restoration, including: a base coat/clear coat paint job; new interior; new convertible top; an engine rebuild; and having the engine area detailed to factory original appearance. The car has only been driven 20 miles since the restoration was completed in 2006. 70,851 miles from the odometer. November 5, 2008.
