| Car history: |
05/21/2014 Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this gorgeous numbers matching 1980 L-82 Corvette in stunning condition with only 19,642 original miles, this is truly an investment grade C3 Corvette. The car looks great, runs well, everything works including the A/C and factory alarm, and it is an awesome driver. It is also absolutely loaded with almost every option available for a 1980 Corvette including stereo radio with CB, the high performance L-82 engine option, and V54 roof panel carrier, which is totally complete and functional with all the original brackets to store the T-tops on the read decklid of the car. The car is finished in the highly attractive color combination of Dark Claret Metallic (76) over Doeskin (59C). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value while it continues to appreciate. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as Actual as well as accompanying service records and documention. There is a copy of an previous title showing the car had 9,976 actual miles in May of 1989, a title transfer on August 23, 2007 showing the car had 17,884 miles, and a service receipt from June 30, 2008 showing the car had 18,480 miles.
Exterior The Dark Claret Metallic exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The car exhibits good body panel fit overall for a C3 Corvette. The very low front end of these late C3 Corvettes is very susceptible to damage. This Corvette still has the original factory rubber air dams in good condition, which is a nice sign of the care the previous owners have taken when driving the car. The factory N90 aluminum wheels are in great shape with a nice finish and no curb rash. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There still is a small nick or touch up here or there as one can see in the photos. Some imperfections are too small to show up in the photos, but nothing that is very noticeable from five or ten feet away. The tires have about 90 percent tread left. As one can see in the photos of the underside of the car, this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield. The underside of the car is exceptionally clean, even for 19,642 miles.
Window Date Codes Please note that the side glass, rear window, and even both T-Tops on this car are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of August 12, 1980 (K12). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.
The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos
Interior The Doeskin interior of the Corvette looks truly superb. The seats are in excellent original condition with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. They are not worn through in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap aftermarket replacement. The seats with cloth inserts are quite rare to see in a 1980 Corvette and they are not reproduced or available in the aftermarket so it is great to see them in such great shape. The carpet is very good original condition with no major stains, tears, or holes. The dash and center console look fantastic with no splits, no sun fading, and no cracks. The door panels are in good condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The car has never been smoked in, there is no ash in the ashtray or aroma what so ever. The jack and jack handle are still present and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original stickers on the compartment lid, even the jack itself still has the original sticker on it. The original stereo radio works well and correctly goes into the CB mode. The power antenna goes up and down with the radio properly. All of the gauge faces are are sharp with a clean finish the the gauge lenses are crisp and clear. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this all original interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life. Even very detailed items that are almost always broken or shabby are not on this car; details such as the finger pulls for the rear storage compartment and the fit of the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down to the parking brake console.
The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.
Mechanical This car seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles all right. The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds. There are no strange noises or vibrations. The transmission shifts well. The car was recently serviced with a complete a/c tune- up and refurbished radiator. The previous owners were very particular about the originality of the car. The a/c system was serviced and refilled with the correct and much more expensive R12 refrigerant to keep the car and fittings in the engine compartment original. The radiator was recored instead of just replaced to keep the tanks correct. When the a/c compressor needed replacement the original unit was kept with the car, it is pictured below in a box. Also pictured in the box and included with the car are the original ignition wires, receiver dryer, and even some of the original belts. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast.
Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and original as one can see in the photos, even the original smog pump is still in place. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, cruise control, wipers, power windows, power locks, and blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock, however a new quartz movement for the clock is included with the car. This Corvette has a very rare original CB only power antenna, it is extremely uncommon to see these in working order. Even the factory alarm works properly. Out of the dozens of 1980 Corvettes that we have owned, this is literally the first one with a fully functional correctly working factory alarm. As one can observe in the video, the alarm is armed when the drivers door is locked. It is then set off when the T-top is removed as there is a switch in the pin mechanism. The same result with alarm going off would occur if one of the doors had been opened or the hood. The alarm is then disarmed when driver door lock is moved to the unlock position. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no binding. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. As with many original low mileage cars it would probably benefit form a general tune up to smooth out the idle. The emission system on this Corvette is original, unmolested, and complete with the smog pump and catalytic converter still in place. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day. Overall Condition Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in fantastic original condition. Numbers matching and originality is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. This is a very late 1980 Corvette made in the last month of production meaning this is one of the last L-82 Corvettes every made. In our experience the 1980-81 model years draw a small premium over the other late C3 Corvettes. These are the most refined and modern driving of all the third generation Corvettes, as well as the last years to feature carburetion. The 1982 Corvettes came with the Cross Fire Fuel Injection system, which has a well deserved very bad reputation and is considered to be unsuccessful and unreliable.
The extremely well cared for original condition, the very low miles, attractive color combination, documentation, the many highly desirable options, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and nearly impossible to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. |
