A VERY RARE BREED, 32,000 MILES, ALL NUMBERS MATCH, BOTH TOPS, ONLY 2 OWNERS, BEAUTIFUL MULSANNE BLUE WITH BRIGHT BLUE INTERIOR. TOP NOTCH, TOP SHELF, TOP FLIGHT?..............ABSOLUTELY. LESS THAN 400 MILES SINCE COMPLETION. TRUE BARN FIND. HISTORY: This car was found sitting in a barn in Indiana in the fall of 2006. It was purchased from the lady who was its second owner. Although the mileage on this special Vette was sworn to be correct and was “drivable” when found, it still needed help. The paint was all but gone from years of Pigeon droppings, the interior was brittle and nasty, the exhaust had rusted off, most all vacuum and coolant hoses were nonexistent, the white letter F-70x15 Goodyear’s were shot, and mouse nests were everywhere. The frame and bird cage were/are perfect. The convertible top was in bad shape but its frame was also perfect. The engine ran and the car would move (it was loaded on the trailer under its own power) but like I said it needed help, it had sat too long. It has just emerged from a 17 month complete restoration and is absolutely beautiful. View the 150 crystal clear pictures and see if you don’t agree. Check out the beautiful virgin floors. NUMBERS Engine: 3970010 V0527CTR= Flint May 27 350-370 mt, ig. Casting date D200= April 20, 1970. Heads:3927186. Casting date D240=April 24, 1970. Trans: 3925660, P0E23C=Muncie 1970 May 23 M-22. Rear end:2CAM 6 3 70=2nd shift 3:36 posi June 3, 1970. WHAT WAS DONE? The body was removed and completely stripped; a new gel coat was added then primed and blocked numerous times. The top coat is PPG base/clear……flawless. The frame was soda blasted and painted. The front suspension was rebuilt. The rear axle was rebuilt. The transmission was rebuilt as well as re-facing the flywheel and replacing the clutch assembly. All u-joints were replaced and the driveshaft was re-balanced. All brakes, lines, hoses, calipers, and rotors were renewed or replaced. All bearings and seals were replaced. All vacuum and coolant hoses were replaced. The frame and engine compartment were nicely detailed. During the engine rebuild as many original parts were re-used as possible including the block and heads, the crank and rods, windage tray and the intake. The block was cleaned, magnifluxed, inspected, line bore checked and cylinders bored .030. All freeze plugs, oil journal plugs, and cam bearings were replaced. The original steel crank was turned .010-.010. The original “pink” rods were re-sized and new bolts installed. The pistons were replaced with exact forged, domed 11:1 GM replacements. The rings are chrome-moly file fit. The entire rotating assembly was balanced. The original GM cam #3972178 was replaced with GM #3965754. This is the second design “off road” race cam. It is a little hotter, sounds terrific and performance is unreal. Cam was degreed in block. The lifters are also GM direct replacement. Push rods are .080 wall chrome moly. The heads were completely re-worked and all new rockers, guide plates, valves, springs, seals, locks, and retainers were installed. The entire interior is Al Knoch and completely new. Of course all weather strips, window felt, etc. is new. All vent and heater cables are new and work perfectly. All gauges are original and function perfectly. All glass is original and perfect. The door glass rolls just as it should. The headlights and wiper door work perfectly. TODAY: This car starts, runs, drives, and looks brand new. It attracts attention like a magnet. If you want to blend in and not be noticed this is not the car for you. Everything functions exactly as it did 38 years ago when new. All lights and signaling devices, warning indicators, even the emergency brake warning and headlamp warning lamps work perfectly. The power from this small block is incredible. The sound of the original GM high lift cam with its healthy thump and the solid lifters thrashing, turns every head at any stoplight. When you ease off the clutch and start to roll down the boulevard just slow shifting each gear, you feel like an exhibitionist or a man in a one car parade. Every eye is on you. THIS IS A VERY NICE CORVETTE. WHAT IS NOT CORRECT OR WHAT DOES IT NEED? The plug wires, spark plugs, oil & filter, coolant, wiper blades, air cleaner, belts, hoses and clamps are not original. The starter, water pump, alternator, and fuel pump may be. The radiator and/or expansion tank may not be correct. The radio is a replacement. The original is non-working. The oil pan is not original. The original ignition is not on the car but can be included. The trans is an M20. The original M22 is not usable in its current state. Of course the headers are not original and we do not have the factory manifolds. The carburetor is a Holley 750, the original is not available. April 12, 2008. |
