2) BiN $24,999 (Ended) on July 14 and August 4 and 26, 2016.
1) The red / red 1971 Corvette coupe, VIN number 194371S112162 is a non air 270HP 350 coupe built in March 1971. The car appears to be an original red car with red interior. We could find no signs of any major collision damage but did find fiberglass work around the passenger's rear wheel well, possibly due to oversize tires or a blowout years ago. There are several imperfections in the fiberglass as outlined in the photos. The body panels, doors, gauges, seat frames, and trim all appear to be original. It even retains the rear window carrier, spare tire (matching T/A and wheel), tire carrier and owner's manual. The jack is missing but they are available on eBay. Cosmetically, the t-tops, frame, birdcage are in great condition and it does not appears to have been driven winters as you can see by the superb frame condition.
The bodywork and paint appear to be fairly good quality but the car could use a buffing and possible light wet sand due to a bit of orange peel in the finish as shown in the photos. There are several imperfections as noted in the photos.
The components of the car appear to be mostly original and correct for the year, including the valve covers, shielding, etc. The carb may be from a later model Corvette. The block is a correct 3970010 casting but not numbers matching as it appears to be a 1970 date code based on the CNV suffix.
Over $5500 was spent mechanically on the car in the past year. This included evaluating the engine by a compression test (all within spec -145 -155), u-joints and hardware, brake system overhaul including new calipers and lines, rotors, and emergency Brake, as well as the correct master cylinder with bleeders, cleaned the gas tank out, with new sender, fuel pump and carb rebuild, cooling system overhaul including hoses, belts, new alternator, water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, radiator recore, as well as a complete engine tune up, transmission, differential and engine oil changes, sending units, and Pertronix electronic ignition (installed in distributor) and much, much more.
The BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires are fairly recent and have great tread, the headlights work as they should, all the gauge and interior lights work well, and the exterior lighting and directionals also work. The power windows function, the gauges work aside from an intermittent oil pressure gauge that stopped (could be a clog in the line or the gauge may need lubrication) and the radio works but the speakers have a bit of a rattle at times. The speedometer and tachometer work, the clock does not. It also has working tilt / tele, and the heater fan runs on all speeds. We did not try the controls beyond that. The windshield wipers will need some attention and the activators will need to be cleaned / lubed but they do run.
The car starts, runs, drives and stops as it should. The transmission shifts well through the gears, it idles exceptionally well, and has a great feel down the road. The only issues are a slight exhaust leak probably by the manifold, and a slight pull to the right (probable alignment).
To summarize, it is our opinion that this car with very minimal work would be a very nice driver. It is a great vehicle that was recently reconditioned to drive reliably. It would make a great addition for the Corvette enthusiast who wants a 1971 Corvette coupe in a fantastic original color scheme with a beautiful frame. The title is free and clear, and we are also requiring a bill of sale be signed by the new owner stating this vehicle is being purchased as-is. Color codes from the trim plate. Built date is H12. 61,439 miles from the odometer. $6,200 and running. July 17, 2015.
