Car history:
This corvette hasn't been on the road since the mid 80's. It was built in July of 1968. It was a Lemans Blue car with medium blue Interior. I bought this car wanting to build it into an L88 tribute racer. Once I got it all home and dug into it, I realized this car is completely numbers matching. So, I started down a path of bringing the car back to stock, but my heart just isn't in it. I've decided to sell it, and look for one a little less original, and one a little less valuable. I've got a stack of receipts totaling around $7500 in parts spent already by myself and the previous owner.
The Chassis: The chassis is rust free and has been completely disassembled, acid dipped, and painted. All suspension parts replaced including trailing arms, spindles, bearings, bushings, shocks, etc... All new stainless brake lines and stainless fuel lines with new fuel tanks. New in the boxes are 4 stainless steel lined brake calipers. It is the original frame. The paint used was apparently enamel and has faded some. Paint touchup to the chassis would spruce it up some. (See attached picture of VIN stamp on frame)
The Motor: The motor is the original 327/300hp V8. It has been cleaned, bored, crank and rods turned 10 under, new pistons and of course all new bearings and new Comp cam shaft. Heads were cleaned, magnafluxed, and new valves, seats, seals, and springs installed. Also installed is a squarebore edelbrock performer intake with the flange up front machined out for the filler tube so the original 1968 only valve covers can be retained. The engine has been primed with epoxy primer, and finished with Chevrolet Orange Acrylic urethane Single stage paint. It's an expensive paint job for an engine but should stay presentable for many years to come, and be easy to clean. Motor casting numbers are:
Block = 3914678, date code of G138 (July 13, 68), block pad shows 18S426351(1=Chevy, 8=1968, S= St. Louis, 426351 is last 6 of VIN) and V0717HE (July 17, 1968, 300hp 327 w/4 speed)
The transmission is the original Muncie 4 speed. I disassembled it, cleaned it all good, and resealed it (Gaskets and Seals). Everything was nice and tight and showed very little sign of wear. ID Pad shows 18S426351 which matches block, chassis, and vin, and P8K08. (P=Muncie, 8=1968, K08 = July 08)
Rear diff has a date code of F178. (June 17th, 1968) Rear diff cover has dated code of F168. (June 16th, 1968) Ratio code of AM, which is 3.36:1 Positraction. Ratio was verified when rear diff was opened up.
Body: The body obviously needs to be completely stripped and some fiberglass work done. Fortunately the car has not been wrecked, so the repairs are fairly minor. I have a unopened West System Epoxy set that goes with the car that should be plenty for all fiberglass repairs. ($200 Value) West System is far superior to traditional Polyester in my opinion. Hood, Convertible Deck, and headlights are all in great shape. Doors as far as fiberglass are good, but one door has some rust in the steel portion of the door. I also have an original fiberglass hardtop, as well as the folding top. The hardtop is in great shape, minus peeling vinyl, but the folding top will need some work. The header panel is pretty rusty. Portions of the birdcage have been worked on, so the fiberglass panels that cover the steel inside the door jamb has been removed and will have to be reinstalled. I have all of those pieces. Also, a small piece of fiberglass is busted on the rear end. I have the piece (See Picture). The original vin tag was damaged due to rust and the first two numbers are missing. A new one will have to be fashioned.
The Rest: I have all the parts for the car both interior and exterior in tubs. The only things that I have found to be missing are the exhaust manifolds, stocke wheels, and the spare tire and wheel. (Not including consumables like belts, hoses, alternator, etc. ) Also, I have a radiator new in the box.
The body is off the frame to make an inspection easier. I can have the body back on the chassis in 20 minutes. I transported the car on a trailer with the cockpit of the car loaded with parts, and my pickup bed loaded with parts and got it all in one trip. No longer available for sale on February 24, 2017.
