| 1968 Greenwood / Eckler Can Am Corvette Widebody. Details: Professionally installed bodywork by US Auto Service of San Diego. All work bonded and then double fiber-glassed inside and outside. Primed in urethane. Engine rebuild in 1984 by Keith Black Racing Engines to run on Nitrous Oxide, 8.5:1 Compression so will run on 87 oct. Has not run since 1988 when it was rebuilt. Polished rods, ported heads, Crane cam, etc etc etc. All the goodies but built to last. It dyno’d 733 HP at that time with over 850 ft lb of torque. Before the rebuild it turned a best time of 11.33 ET at the Carlsbad Raceway Dragstrip. Somewhere I have the time slip but only God knows where! Twin NOS bottles mounted under the rear of the car with main valve in the cockpit. Nitrous system is set up so that when switched on the throttle has to be in the full open position and then you can toggle the system on and off from the shifter handle. This custom Can Am Corvette has hundreds of custom made items, everything was professionally done, from the 7075 T6 aircraft aluminum front air dam to the ball bearing throttle cable, there are literally too many things to list, anyway I can’t remember most of them! I have owned this Corvette from 1978 and after moving on to warbird aircraft this spectacular car just sat, my attention diverted skyward, and I never finished it. Once finished these Can Am Corvettes command everyone’s attention, they are big and they are brutes, so be advised. This is no rice burner, this is pure rocket launching, head snapping torque! I would advise novices to look elsewhere. What is necessary to finish this Corvette: This car ran and drove before work stopped. Prep, service and pre-oil the engine before starting. Engine was long term preserved with Kendall 50wt. Service the transmission, Replace all coolant hoses, Mount air dam and components, Finish up minor wiring, Install hood, Install tail lights, Flush fuel tank, Basic check of all systems, Personally I would get the car running and driving before moving on to final paint. It will need a final finish sanding of existing primer and light re-prime before final color coat.
