This Stingray holds a very special place with the current owners. The car is filled
with over half a million miles of memories. They purchased the car when it was
only a year old from Eddie Hopper Chevrolet in Garden Grove, CA. It was on display
in their showroom and they traded-in their 1966 Corvette Coupe for it. They already
had a 1966 Corvette Roadster, which was their competition car, and they wanted
something more comfortable that they could use for every day driving and long
weekend trips. They were very active members of the national Corvette club and
would travel all over the country attending different events. As a result, the miles
racked up quick. However, they truly relied on this car to never fail them (which it
never did). As a result, the level of maintenance and care this car received was
fanatical. The owners kept a logbook of every service performed. They even have
copies of every receipt from day one. Of course, no service was ever overlooked.
In fact, many service items were performed long before they were even due.

Shortly after purchasing the car, they just weren’t happy with the automatic
transmission. So, they had Dick Guldstrand custom build a 4-speed manual
gearbox with LeMans gears so that it would run great on long open highway stretches.

In the early 80’s, the owners were getting tired of the blue and decided to have
the car completely repainted red. They chose a single-stage Ferrari red. Unfortunately,
it just didn’t hold up that well. So, in 2006, they had the car stripped and repainted
again. This time they used a 2007 Nissan paint called “Code Red.” When the color
was changed in the 80’s, the owners also had the seats redone in red leather, installed
a factory red carpet, and had all the plastic dyed red as well. Also, in the 1980’s,
they were tired of trying to put wider tires on the 6” factory wheels, so they purchased
a set of new Western Wheel “real” center-knock-offs which were 15x8 all the way
around. They look great and really fit the look of the car.

In 2009, the owners decided to do a full engine rebuild. The motor was lightly
modified from 270hp to approximately 310hp. It was blue printed, balanced, and
line bored. They also used a slightly more aggressive cam. The key with rebuilding
the motor wasn’t to get big horsepower, but rather make it strong and reliable.
The compression is 8.5:1 and runs great on unleaded gas. They also added a
Melling high performance oil pump to make sure the engine never starved. The
radiator was also upgraded to a high performance radiator to ensure the engine
ran cool.

As I mentioned, this Corvette was never short on mechanical attention. Here are
some of the recent services:

Full Major Service: New spark plugs, filters (oil and air), all new hoses, and belts
New Clutch
New Transmission Oil/Service
New Posi-traction Fluid
New Rear Wheel Bearings
Service Front Wheel Bearings
Air Conditioner Service and New Seals
Reconditioned Radiator
New Brake Rotors and Ceramic Pads

This Stingray is nicely optioned with the following:
Power Brakes
Power Windows
Power Steering
Tilt/Telescopic Steering Wheel
Air Conditioning

The condition of this car is remarkable considering the age and miles. It is so
apparent that the owners truly loved this car. The paint is in very good shape with
just some very minor nicks from normal road use. There is some bubbling of the
paint on the hood where the Freon from the A/C leaked and was absorbed by the
fiberglass (see photos). The knock-off wheels are also in great condition with no
major curb rash. The tires are nearly worn out and do need to be replaced. The
interior is in equally as nice condition especially considering that it was refurbished
nearly 30-years ago. The leather is nice with some mild wear but no tears. Some
of the plastic trim has some small cracks and is showing a bit of the original blue
underneath, but it is not very noticeable. Everything works properly in the car.
All the gauges operate except the clock. Even the A/C blows cold.

California registration is paid through August 2013.

This Stingray comes complete with the original owner’s manual, spare tire (with
brand new tire), jack, and extra keys.
