Car history:
You are viewing a privately owned 1970 Chevrolet L46 Corvette! Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this vehicle. You will be purchasing this vehicle which has been in the same family for the last forty (40) years.
The current owner acquired the vehicle with 71,000 miles on the odometer in 1999 from the estate of his father, who had owned the car since 1976. His father had maintained the car meticulously, as any car enthusiast would. Although the current owner is not as much of a car-guy as his father was, he continued maintenance of the car and kept it stored indoors the entire time he has owned it. In 2007, with 77,000 miles, the car underwent a restoration. During the restoration process, the frame/chassis was replaced. His father had purchased a new frame and intended to do the restoration himself before he died. Currently, the vehicle has 81,169 miles showing on the odometer. These are the original miles on the vehicle. Another interesting fact about this vehicle, is that is was built in the first week the 1970 Corvette's were produced. The 1970 model year was shortened due to the labor strike in 1969. The '70 models didn't start rolling off the assembly line until January. This vehicle was produced on January 8th. (The fourth day of production
).
Description: Written by the Owner.
Body & Paint: Body is finished in its correct original color. It was repainted during the restoration in 2007. The Monza Red paint (Code 974) shows very well with only a few small flaws. A new black convertible top was also installed at that time. The plastic rear window is in great condition. The body panel fit, gaps and alignment is good. (Corvettes never had the best panel alignment.) The vacuum controlled headlight doors along with the wiper cowl panel door operate without any problems. Some of the original weather stripping is starting to crack and disintegrate.
Chrome & Trim: Much of the chrome pieces have been replaced or replated. Some pieces are showing small signs of their age, but still are very nice. Much of the stainless trim has been replaced also. Some of the black painted trim pieces could use some touching up. The left and right rocker moulding, along with front and rear bumpers with guards were all replaced. There are new right and left grille units also installed.
Interior: The interior still has its original Red vinyl material. (Trim Code 407) Believe it or not, this red paint with red interior color combination is kinda rare. You typically see these red Corvettes with the black interior. The interior is in great condition without any rips, holes, tears, or loose seams in the seats. The door panels and dash area is free of any cracks or marks. Some of the black paint is wearing off the center dash/console trim pieces. Pretty typical with a vehicle of this age. The interior is very clean and shows very well. It does also have two red matching carpeted floor mats that goes along with the vehicle. (Were removed for photos.) The radio was swapped at one time with a better aftermarket unit with extra speakers mounted in the rear. Everything is working with the only exception being the sending unit for the fuel gauge and the factory clock. The storage compartments behind the seats are in great shape and houses the factory jack and jacking tools.
Engine Compartment: Under the hood sits the original, matching number 350HP/350 cu. in. L46 Option V-8 engine with a 4-speed manual transmission. Car starts, runs and drives great without any unusual sounds, vibrations, or problems. The 4-speed manual transission shifts shoothly and effortlessly with the stock shifter. Engine compartment is very original looking but could use a good cleaning/detailing to bring it up to show ready. It is all stock looking and hasn't been played around with or modified. This original engine has never been rebuilt or tampered with. There never has been a need to. It doesn't tick, smoke, leak or overheat. The radiator and fan shroud has been replaced during the restoration.
Glass: Both side glass pieces are original with the Astro Ventilation logo and correct date codes on them. The windshield was replace at one time and it in great condition without any cracks, chip, or wiper marks. The vehicle is equipped with Power Windows (A31) and are working fine without any problems.
Wheels & Tires: The stock Rally wheels are sporting new stainless steel trim rings with the classic Chevrolet center caps. Mounted on these wheels are four newer Goodyear Eagle GTII P225/78R15 raised white lettered radial tires. (The tires have about 10,000 miles on them). It still has the original spare Goodyear Wide Tread F70-15 lettered tire and rally wheel that came with the car. Tire does not hold air. It is stored in its compartment under the rear of the vehicle. The spare tire carrier is not broken or cracked. Great condition.
Undercarriage: Again, during the 2007 restoration, the frame/chassis was replaced. The original frame had a few weak spots because of rust issues. As you can see from the undercarriage photos, the frame is painted chassis black and is without any rust, rust scale, or rust pit marks. Along with a new frame, the vehicle received a new front cross member, rear trailing arms, A-arms, radiator support, tie rod ends, idler arm, stainless steel brake/fuel lines and new rubber bushings/mounts. Basically an all new chassis. The shocks along with all the other major suspension components were replace including the power steering ram and valve unit. It is clean and rust free but would need to be detailed to make it show ready. (Only surface rust on the bare metal items). There is a new dual exhaust system with stainless steel tips at the rear.
Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why there are several pictures of the bottom in the photo gallery. Please view them all and see why this vehicle is better then most.
Manuals & Paperwork: The original owners manual, repair manuals, parts manuals, and the receipts from the restoration will all go along with the vehicle. Sold for $25,300 on May 15, 2016.
