Car history:
1972 Corvette LT-1 Four Speed Coupe. All the numbers are correct for this original California car, block, transmission, rear end, etc. except for one head which is wrong. So here are the numbers: Trim Tag: D03 (D = November) Trim 404 (black leather) Paint 912 (sunflower yellow), LT-1 Coupes produced in 1972: 1,336. Options: U69 AM/FM Radio (original and functional), N40 Power Steering, GV7 3:55 Ratio Positraction Axel HD, A85 Shoulder Harness, Power brakes, Alarm system, Deluxe leather interior, Block Code: V0812 CKY (August 12th, 255 HP HOlley 4BBL Mechanical Lifters, 4 Speed). Block Casting Code: 3970010 Dated: H91 (August 9, 1971). Heads: 3973487 X I131 / 3973487 H191 (no "X" on this one, replacement?). Transmission: 661 Case P2R29A (Muncie 4 speed M20 Wide Ratio 2.52:1, October 29, 72 model year). Rear End: AA (3:55 Posi) W (Warren Plant) 293 E2 (October 20th, Eaton, 2nd shift). Intake: 3959594. Exhaust Manifolds: 3932461 (LH & RH) are drilled with air injection holes for CA emissions.
Tach Drive Distributor with points (no 1972's had transistorized ignition). New tires, brakes, and clutch. The LT-1 runs and drives fine. This car is an original California car with its AIR holes in the exhaust manifolds and the label above the brake booster says "This Vehicle conforms to Federal and California Regulations Applicable to 1972 Model year new motor vehicle".
Engine/Mechanical: The original engine comes with the car but is not in the car. It was removed after throwing a rod. A replacement 350 has been installed. The replacement engine is not new. The original block is fine, just one chip at the bottom where the oil pan bolts up to it. The block is standard bore with its original pistons, rods, etc. I have lots and lots of pictures of this car and will have a link posted to this auction so that they may be viewed by everyone. I replaced the gas tank because the gas cap had been left off (purchased it that way) and the original tank had rusty water in it. When we dropped the tank we did not find a build sheet (so sad) because the tank had been previously out for repairs, cleaned and painted black. We still have the original gas tank. During this work I took many pictures underneath with the tank out. I noted the rear end numbers, the heavy duty caps on the rear end, a 9 leaf spring, 2 1/2 inch half-shafts, small joint strut rods, the rear shocks have been replaced, and all original exhaust. The alarm horn works well. While the transmission was out I removed the cover and took pictures of the numbers and gears. The transmission looks new in side and shifts smooth.
Interior: The interior is as clean as you would expect from a 46k mile car. The carpet is excellent, only the piece behind the seats shows any fading at all. Both seats function perfectly, the leather is really nice with one wear area on the drivers seat that is very small. All lights and gauges work including the clock (when you tap it). The gauges and bezels are really clean and nice, no break or crack. There are no tear or crack in the dash or consoles. The Vent knobs operate smoothly, the heater motor and courtesy lights work. When I bought the car there were no keys and I had a new key cut for the ignition but not for the door locks. The lock is missing from the storage compartment, someone may have tried to have a key made, probably with no success as it was never reinstalled. There is no jack, T-top tiedowns, or T-top bags. The door panels are nice with one crack in the drivers arm rest. The headlight switch bezel that says "lights" is broken. All the seat belts function properly and are in great shape including the shoulder harnesses.
Body: The rear tail panel has some cracks in it as does the passengers rear wheel well. There are no existing repairs on either of the rear quarter panels, tail light panel, lower valance or rear deck. When I was replacing the gas tank I took pictures of any grease pen markings that I saw. No portion of the rear end assembly looks as if it has ever been taken apart or had any repairs. I found a small hole in the bottom of the battery tray. It was clean overall underneath. The doors are excellent. The T-tops are not the original but are correct. All the wiper door parts are there but do not operate as there is no vacuum hooked up at this time. All the hoses and the vacuum can are there. It appears that the car was involved in an accident at some point as the fiberglass has been replaced from the inner fenders forward with hand laid parts. The fit and fiberglass work is poor. The inner fenders are GM replacements. The hood appears to be a replacement from a 1968 or 69 Corvette as it has the two bolts for the latch cable. The hood had '454' emblems on it when I got it (I took them off). The front fender extentions are there but not attached to the bumper, so the front clip sags and has cracked at the wheel arches. The headlight bar is coming loose on the drivers side causing the headlight to sit to far forward. There is no vacuum hooked up to the headlights either. The drivers side front grill looks nice, the passengers side front grill needs to be re-chromed and painted. All the exterior lights on the car work. The drivers side front marker lens is missing. The tail light lenses are excellent and beautiful. The passengers side hood latch seems to catch and is a bugger to get loose so I don't press down and latch that side. All the chrome needs to be re-plated. From the firewall back this is a very nice original car. All the electrical works properly and the harnesses have not been cut into anywhere.
Frame: The Frame does not have any rust anywhere and it is not bent. There is a dent on the bottom at the front sump and under the drivers side door hinge. Colors from the trim plate. Built date is D03. December 6, 2009.
