Car history:
1) This Corvette has much of the original appointments such as the AM radio, the 427 400 HP engine with 3x2 factory tri-power, Muncie 4 speed transmission (see photos of engine and transmission with VIN stamps and casting numbers / dates). We would call it something between a survivor and nice driver. Most of these cars were modified over the years beyond recognition, driven very hard, totaled or now need a complete restoration. This one could be used as it is with minimal work. It was original finished in 984 Safari Yellow with a standard vinyl interior, telescopic steering wheel. It has manual disc brakes and manual steering. It has been reconditioned cosmetically and mechanically over the past 60 days including a tune up, carb rebuild, paint work, carpeting and more. It was stored much of its life in a dry barn prior to that. With an incredible 87623 original miles, it has been seldom driven over the years. Cosmetically, the recent professional paint job is incredible. The gauges, all interior and exterior lights, power windows and even the vacuum actuated windshield wipers and headlights function. The interior is very nice, aside from a small rip and imperfections as shown and it could stand a detailing and thorough cleaning. Mechanically, the carbs were rebuilt, and car runs and drives fairly well. The bowls are reproductions, but we included the original bowls. It looks like the intake may have had a weld years ago but it is not affecting how it runs or drives. The tires are brand new and all fluids have been changed. It has an extremely clean underbody and bird cage as well. The seat belts are original 1968 and in great shape. We also have the original 1968 door panels, a jack and handle, spare tire with correct 1968 wheel, spare tire carrier and many other parts we are including with the sale. The compression was an excellent 170 to 175 across all cylinders when the plugs were changed a few weeks ago. The clutch feels great but heavy duty we are sure based on the pedal feel. Note the engine was rebuilt a long time ago. We included a photo of the rebuild tag with what was done. When it was rebuilt, they decked the block but thankfully not enough to remove all the numbers and letters. At least 4-5 of the vin are still visible as you can see, as well as the IM code on the block which is always stamped deeper when new. The engine block casting number is 3935439 which is correct for late 1968 427 400/430 and 435 horse cars. The embossed block has the correct HIPER and a date code that was hidden under the rebuild tag of D11 8 or April 11th, 1968 which we find to be correct for these cars. The trim tag on the body has a body build date of K14 which is June 14th. We believe this is a late 1968 car built in June, 1968. We did not check the heads or other components. After extensive analyzing the codes and consultation with experts, it is our opinion that this is a numbers matching car. However, we suggest that you review the dates, look at the castings and date codes, as well as the trim tag date and VIN sequence number and draw your own conclusion. We make no guarantees of components being correct for any car and the responsibility for the research and due diligence is with the buyer. What does it need? It still could use a bit of TLC such as a 4 wheel brake job as the brakes have not been done with a caliper dribbling a bit. We would also order a better set of door panels that fit better than the reproductions on the car. We would also check the front end, get an alignment and detail the interior. We would also better tune the engine and carbs. The radio works intermittently and there is a slight mouse smell from the vents that seems to be fading as we exercise the car. If you are looking for a new car, perfect finish, no squeaks or rattles, or the reliability of a Toyota Camry, this car is not for you. If you like a bit of patina, understand what you are buying and are a Corvette freak like us, this vehicle deserves a closer look. Make no mistake that these are all projects or a work in progress to some degree and this example is no different. It is a high dollar car that has all the right equipment.We are also including boxes of spare parts, receipts, manuals, etc. With Corvettes pulling historic values, this is a great investment in our opinion.
