Car history:
1) 1970 BIG BLOCK Corvette. Numbers matching!
THE LOOK: This is the classic of all muscle cars, the one that stops all conversation. It is in beautiful condition, an eye-catching machine.
If you're getting a car this beautiful, this exciting, why get it in a dull, boring color? This factory-color is a dazzling Daytona Yellow (984). It's the color of the sun, which makes sense because that 454 can light the earth on fire. The existing clear coat was laboriously color-sanded in a six-step process to an exquisite shine. It is truly beautiful.
THE SOUND: When you turn the key, most cars just quietly switch on. This beast roars to life. It announces to the world that its woken up. At idle, it sounds like Godzilla is purring. And upon acceleration, it sounds like a dragster on steroids. Check out this YouTube video and listen to the actual car for yourself (enlarged picture and sound on high).
THE FEEL: The car is a thrill-ride. When you send 400 hp and 500 ft/lb of torque to the rear wheels, the acceleration is neck-snapping. Most common response from passengers is Wow, I've never been in such a powerful car.
THE INVESTMENT: This is a stunning -- and ORIGINAL -- collector car. It does what an investment is supposed to do -- it goes up in value. The value of this car climbed over the years I've owned it, more than the stock market did. Corvette prices climb every year, so get this one while you still can.
The car has been in my collection for about 12 years, during which I've put on about 100 miles per year. Just enough to keep it limbered up. The current odometer is 80,950 which is correct to the best of my knowledge, though car looks like it has much less. The prior owner said he rebuilt the engine about 5000 miles ago. It has a gentle lope at idle because he went with a slightly racier cam (the only thing that is not stock on the car to my knowledge). The car runs like a top because I keep it maintained in fine condition. It is always stored indoors under a car cover. Working condition at this time: Power windows, wipers, headlamps (and vacuum pop ups), tail lamps, signal lamps, speedo, tach and all other instruments (except clock). Original radio is in it too. Heating and cooling vents and flaps work. But blower motor and AC system is inoperative (needs a charge?).
Recently, I had the bushings in the front suspension changed, the AT fluid changed and a minor leak in the vacuum actuator system was tracked down and fixed. It has a new radiator, new water pump, new power steering pump and other steering components. A few years back I changed the rear trailing arm assembly. All manuals are included. Driver's manual, factory manuals, third party manuals, laminated wiring diagrams -- even matching touch-up paint! 80,948 miles from the odometer. $37,500. April 19, 2014. Sold for $34,000 on April 8, 2018.
