| Car history: |
We have exhausted all resources trying to document the authenticity of this special-bodied Corvette as a remnant of one of the ten original Baldwin Motion corvettes. So without proof and a good start of an awesome Baldwin Motion project is a 1969 Corvette Stingray. The VIN number is 194379S728571 and it does come with a clear Florida title. The odometer reads 79,417 miles. If it isn’t genuine then someone invested a lot of time and effort in building a close motion replica-utilizing vintage 1960’s era material. This special-bodied Corvette has the full fastback rear window and shrouded louvers. This model has the ultra-roomy interior luggage compartment with speakers and 1960’s era carpeting. Only, a professional shop could have done the fastback fiberglass work on the rear of this car. There is a decal on the fiberglass inside with a mold number on it above the rear window. This coupe also has the latching LeMans Fuel Filler, flared wheel wells and all the glass. The front end of this car is interesting and may not be the original because we could not find any pictures of Motion Corvettes with this type front end. It lacks the GT headlight cutouts and functional scoops. However, this was not usual because there were no two Motion Corvettes alike. However, it does appear that an amateur did the passenger side front fender fiberglass repair. As for the rest of the body there are no accommodations for a rear exhaust setup. It does have the studs on the side frame rails for factory side mounted exhaust pipes. All Baldwin Motion Corvettes had the side-mounted exhaust. Also found on the passenger door is another non-factory custom feature. A professional hole was drilled for an exterior passenger side mirror. This feature did not come with standard 1969 Corvettes but was later added in many specialty-bodied conversion shops and garages. The interior sports the classic Baldwin Motion two-tone brown leather seats sitting on top of orange carpeting. The seats have the high performance three-point seat belt attach points both in front and behind the seats. The seat belts are not with the car. The seats and carpet look to be original and are in need of restoration. Another specialty-bodied conversion shop addition was the added Lucas headlight relays and switches on the inside of the car, which were installed as part of a mod that took away the unneeded factory vacuum system that opened and closed the headlight panels. This corvette has the hidden security black box and the original keyed on/off switch on the inner right front passenger fender, which is another specialty-bodied conversion shop item similar to the motion corvettes. From the factory, this corvette originally had air conditioning and a 4-speed transmission. It appears that this classic never did have power steering or brakes. Look at the pictures to see the interior condition and some of the miscellaneous interior corvette parts that come with this car. Note that the tan dash is cracked. The instrument panel does include a 60K redline tachometer. Also, it has an interesting performance manifold vacuum gauge mounted on the dash as well. There is no radio but it does have a telephone bracket and equalizer mounted on the dash. The exterior paint has changed several times from originally a factory gold in color to a performance orange and then to metallic purple before the current grey primer was added. The only problematic rust on this body is the radiator support bracket. The frame is in good condition with some minor surface rust. The rear end is still installed but the engine and transmission are not with this corvette. The drive shaft is included. The shifter is missing. The interior gas, clutch and brake pedal assemblies are not shown but do come with the car. The tires are in decent shape and the American racing wheels are new. No exhaust side pipes or brakes. No special SS or GT emblems. January 9, 2008. |
