This is a 1968 custom convertible. This car started its life as a Silverstone silver w/silver interior 427/400 horse tri-power car w/M21, K66 transistorized ignition, and 3.55 HD rearend. I purchased this vehicle from the daughter of the deceased last owner from Antioch, California, so the history of this car is lost, and have been unable to locate the history after many hours. So....you draw your own conclusions, and I will offer what I know. This car was raced at some point in time in its early years. The flares are real GM flares, and there was a different roll bar in the car where the rear deck would have to of been notched (see picture), but was later changed for the chrome roll bar that is in the car. I say pre-cassette because there was NO MONEY spared on this build, and there was a 8-track player in between the seats between the E-brake cover, and the seats when I got the car, and if you had all the money to throw at a car, then why not go w/the state of the art new stereo? This car has a late 68 for 69 run DZ #386 short block. The front pad has been milled, so no identification there, but have pulled the pan, and is a 4-bolt, and has the unique 8" balancer. The heads are 65 Corvette 461s. The intake is a very rare old school Edelbrock 6 x 2 crossram w/custom Holley 2110s(no power valves...(power valves are a no-no for a setup like this!!!). I am running the original transiistorized distributor, coil, and the amplifier on the LH front inner fender. The exhaust are one off design. There's no other sets of these available, and you will not see another vette w/them. The suspension is the stock BB suspension, but changed the sway bars for larger, but do have the original front, and rear. They are chromed. Almost the whole underside of the car is chromed. The rearend, and all the rear suspension is chromed, the driveshaft is chromed, the M21 is polished, the Mcleod scateershield is chromed, the oil pan is chromed, and pin stripped to match the exterior of the car, the motor mounts are chromed, and pin stripped, the water pump is chrome, the alternator, the oil fill tube, the cylinder heads aree chrome, and all the front suspension, the wiper door assembly, and the center console, and the center guage cluster. There is chrome plates under the car like what you would see at a car show, and the chrome inner fenders. The interior is black leather diamond tucked interior, and in very nice shape w/NO tears, or signs of wear. The headliner is leather diamond tucked. The car had shag carpet in it when I got it, but I pulled it out, and installed the new fronts, and used rear. I installed a AM/FM cassette, but have the original 68 radio, and it works fine, and in excellent shape. This car has the rare telescopic steering column. The plates on the car when I got it expired in Feb.1996, so this car has sat until I got it. When I got it home, I pulled the 6 duece intake, and installed a Torker w/750 DP to run until I got the carbs rebuilt. When i reinstalled the dueces, I also purchased progressive linkage to run off the 2 centers, then come into the 4 corners around half throttle. When I had the intake off, the engine is brand new. It was/is perfect inside. It has been deburred, and all the casting flash smoothed down. This was consistant w/the quality, and the money that shows everywhere w/this car. The brakes were out, so I replaced all the calipers, and the clutch was trashed, and installed a new Center Force performance clutch. Also, has Findanza aluminum flywheel. This car runs great. It is quick, but doesn't start to come to life until around 3k, then pulls hard to alittle below 8k. This car stops fine, tracks fine, and feels like a BB w/HD suspension should. The suspension could used gone thru, but I will get to that in a second. This car was out of alignment in the back when I got it some, and the LH rear gabrial adjustable racing shock collapsed, so on hard launches. I damaged the front portion of the LH rear flare, so this will need repaired. It's about 5 inches long on the wheel opening, and like 2-3 inches inward. This car has laquer paint, and has held up VERY well for a 35+ year old paint work. This car has chips, and the normal stress cracks. This car has NO wiper motor (remember...it was raced,and a show car). The chrome is pretty nice on the underside, and cleans up very nice, but the shock mounts, and the half shafts are starting to pit. They look nice cleaned up, but will start peeling before to much longer, and need will need attention. I'm trying to think what else is wrong....Oh...the clock works sometimes, but they never do in these old vettes. And the tach died the other day, but will have fixed. I was going to go SCCA racing w/this car, and have a lot of parts that are included w/this sale.....Brodix aluminum heads, 2 sets of J56 calipers, 2 spares, and a box full of the J56 pistons, insulators, and enough parts to rebuild about 15 calipers. I have new dual pin front race pads, SS brake lines, braided brake lines, etc. I have a old school Barnes dry sump pan, and 2 Barnes dry sump rebuilt pumps, and enough parts to rebuild again if/when needed. I have a Moroso road race pan w/the sandwhich adapter, and the Accusump. I have a stud girdle, and a couple set of roller rockers w/locks. Because this is a "open car", and SCCA rules....I have roll bar sections to make this car legal. I have a ready to bolt on old school Edelbrock side by side crossram w/rebuilt Holley 600s as a back up, and I like weird/different induction setups. Something else this car needs is tires too. When I got the car it had old Firestone road racing retreads "for racing purposes only" tires on all 4 corners. I wore the rears down, but still running the old firestones up front. I have a set of Goodyear Eagle slicks mounted on another set of 10x15s right now that...yes...I am running on the street. The original cragars w/the rear Firestones are included. I own a vette shop, and have a 75 L82, and a numbers matching 72 BB car out back here, and some other toys. I wanted a car that none has, and you will never see another vette like this one w/this induction, and the exhaust. That's why I bought the car. 51,701 miles. October 7, 2008 |
