Car history:
1969 Corvette Coupe with a 5-Speed Manual Transmission. I’ve owned this car for over 12 years. It’s been a summer-time toy that I’ve improved over the years to make it more drivable & reliable. This car has been driven on 1200+ mile road trips annually for most of the last 10 years and has never broken down, and has never left me stranded! Plus, it gets 20mpg on the freeway! As best I can tell, this was originally an L46 (350/350) 4-speed car with few options other than an AM/FM radio. Manual steering, manual brakes, manual windows, no-air, etc… Neither the engine nor trans are original. The body/paint is in very good condition and the chrome is in great shape. The paint is bright, not peeling. There are some chips here and there which should be expected with a car that’s been driven. The fiberglass is in great shape, but with some of the flaws common to Corvettes. A little spider-cracking alongside the hood. A spot on one of the flying buttresses. But things like the header piece in front of the radiator is in great shape! The fuel tank was replaced before I bought the car, so unfortunately, there’s no tank sticker. Number of miles on the car is UNKNOWN. Here are the details:Engine
Block: 4-bolt main casting #3970010 (not original), Heads: World Products S/R
Valve-train: 1.4” springs with 10 degree locks & Roller Rockers, Pistons: Sealed Power Hypereutectic, Compression Ratio: Approx 9.5:1, Camshaft: Comp Cams XE274H (Advertised Duration 274/ 286, Lift .487/ .490), Lifters: Comp Cams hydraulic, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Holley 4010 Series 600cfm Double Pumper Carb, MSD StreetFire HEI Distributor. High Energy Ignition, so NO points to mess with! 1 5/8” Headers into dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40-series mufflers
Transmission: 5-speed Tremec T5 World Class, First Gear Ratio: 2.95:1, Second Gear Ratio: 1.94:1, Third Gear Ratio: 1.34:1, Fourth Gear Ratio: 1.00:1, Fifth Gear Ratio: 0.63:1, Ram Clutch, Dynotech custom driveshaft.
Rear Axle: 3.70:1 Positraction Rear Differential – Professionally rebuilt in 2008 with new gears. With the above powertrain combo, I see 20mpg on the freeway at 70-75mph.
Wheels/Tires: Wheels: Stock 15x8 Corvette Rallys.
Tires: BF Goodrich Radial T/A P245/60R15 (New in May 2008)
Front Suspension: Stock arms & bushings, Vette Brakes Springs, 1.25” Stabilizer bar with Energy Suspension poly bushings.
Rear Suspension: 7-leaf “gymkhana” spring, Vette Brakes Camber Rods with Poly Bushings, Trailing arms are in excellent shape! Rear shims are rust-free. Alignments have been no problem!
Steering: Stock manual steering.
Brakes: Stainless Steel Sleeved Stock calipers (under 2 years old)
Vacuum system: IT WORKS! The headlights and wiper door work great! There’s an electronic switch for the wiper door that’s been replaced by a manual switch. As infrequently as the car sees rain, replacing the factory switch hasn’t been a priority.
INTERIOR: Gauges/Radio. Custom-fabricated center gauge console built to accept Magellan Maestro GPS (Not included). AutoMeter Designer Black Series Gauges
(Electronic Tach, Electronic Speedo, Fuel, Oil Pressure, Temp). No tach or speedo cable to have problems with! Kenwood Excelon 591 CD Player Stereo with USB & Aux Inputs. Even the fiber optics and key buzzer work in this car!
Seats & Carpet: The seat covers were new when I bought the car and they look like new, The carpet was also new when I bought the car. Over time, it’s developed a small hole under the clutch pedal.
What’s NOT right about this car? The door weatherstripping is in poor condition. I think most of it is original. New stripping would definitely quiet down the car and make it more watertight, but as infrequently as it sees inclement weather, that hasn’t been on my priority list. When the fuel tank is completely full, there is a leak from the top of the tank. I haven’t removed the tank to locate the leak, but with the tank looking like new, I suspect the issue is with the return line. The car doesn’t have the stock fuel return line hooked up at the engine. A corner of one of the headlight bezels has broken off. There is a picture of this in the gallery. The windshield washers do not work. Actually, the washers aren’t present on the wiper arms as they should be. The wiper motor has a pump, but no lines. The wipers work fine though. Just not the washers. The turn signal lever is difficult to turn to one direction. I think the turn signal cancelling cam is the culprit. There are places in the interior where the tan/saddle “paint” is worn away. You can see this in some of the pictures that show the top of the A-pillar trim. The rear compartment door over the battery has a broken latch, but it still stays closed. Colors from the trim plate. Built date is F20. September 15, 2009.
