| Car history: |
Up for sale is a 1979 CHEVROLET CORVETTE L-82 2 DOOR COUPE. This Corvette is in excellent vintage condition and has very low miles….ONLY 17,987 ORIGINAL MILES ON A 33 YEAR OLD CAR! The owner of the vehicle purchased it back in 1981 and has kept great care of it. The seller believes that he is the third owner, with one owner only having it in their possession for 2-4 weeks. Unfortunately due to the age of the car there are no exact records of this.
This car was appraised back in June 2010 by an ASC certified Corvette specialist here in the area. He stated what may be a conservative value at $14,800-$15,900 so it should be valued a little higher 2 years later. This person also has a shop which has done the majority of the maintenance and work done on the car. The appraiser rates this car as a “Strong #2 vehicle”. For those of you not familiar with the term, this is a rating scale for classic and collectable cars. A #2 rating is defined as such:
2) FINE: Well-restored, or a combination of superior restoration and excellent original. Also, an extremely well-maintained original showing very minimal wear. Except for the closest inspection, a #2 vehicle will take the top award in many judged shows.
This is a very high rating because a #1 car is literally the perfect car that is never driven. To put it in perspective here is that definition:
1) EXCELLENT: Restored to current maximum professional standards of quality in every area, or perfect original with components operating and appearing as new. A 95-plus point show car that is not driven. In a sense it has become an object of art. It is transported to shows in an enclosed trailer, and when not being shown, it is stored in a climate-controlled facility. There are very FEW # 1 cars.
When it was appraised almost 2 years ago, the stated mileage was 17,534 so only around 450 miles were put on it since then. The owner put new tires on it back in May 2009 which have most of their tread and are in great condition. Here are the other things that have been repaired or replaced based on receipts provided (All services below performed by Ricotta’s Automotive Corvette Specialists, Rockford/Loves Park, IL ):
•April 2009 – Tune up/belts/oil/plugs/valve cover gaskets ($1,758.08) •May 2009 – BF Goodrich Radial T/A P255/70R15 and alignment ($554.64) •June 2010 – Brakes/rotors/Delco stainless calipers/hoses/rear leaf spring ($2,489.79) •June 2010 – Pack left & right spindle bearings / Replace inboard seals ($213.95) •Sept. 2010 – Service limited slip differential ($108.56)
The car is mechanically sound and sounds great. We have a startup video in this listing so you can hear for yourself. This car was set up with the optional L-82 package which is a high performance 350 5.7L 4bbl V8 engine. The only known mechanical issues are that the power antenna does not work and the AC does not blow cold air. It stopped a while back and the seller left it. He says that if you want to get air you will need a conversion kit to adapt to today’s refrigerant. As stated in the appraisal, it has minimal wear which means there will be little spots of paint wear. There are a handful of tiny spots of paint chips up around the front bumper and front of the hood. There are also a few scuffs around the rear bumper and on the door handles. Some of the chrome has fine scratches as well as the black window trim. After a good buff and wax you may eliminate a lot of these minor paint scuffs and scratches.
The only other things we found are: a stitched tear at the bottom of the driver door (see pic below), a couple minor flaws on the passenger seat (pics below), the wiper knob is broken (original piece still with the car) and the weather stripping is wearing between the windshield and t-top on the driver side (pic below).
We have taken over a 100 photos of this car so we should have covered most issues – please go through them all below to see the cars condition as we want you to have full confidence in what you are purchasing. If you have a specific question after that feel free to ask.
If you have been looking for a L-82 you are not going to want to pass this up. To find one in this condition with this kind of low miles doesn’t happen every day. The seller is offering this priced to sell with a very reasonable asking price so we have a feeling this will not be around long.
