For Sale: A 1977 Corvette. I bought this car with the intention of turning it into a road racing car. Gingerman Raceway Park in within 20 miles of my home and my interest in road racing has continued to grow. I thought a mid seventies Corvette would be a good candidate being rear wheel drive, with four wheel disc brakes, independent suspension, and a 350 engine nothing too dramatic but enough to go scare myself on Wednesday night practice at the track. The problem: The problem is that the more research I did on Corvettes the more I found that mid seventies Corvettes are gaining popularity and its becoming harder and harder to find numbers matching Corvettes that are in really good shape. Which this one is and the numbers do all match. History: This is really a one owner Corvette. I bought it from the mechanic that had brought it back to life after sitting since 1989 where it had been brought by the Daughter of the original owner after he had passed away. At that time the car had been sitting so long the fuel system had gummed up. And the exhaust and brakes needed attention. All four brake calipers were replaced, the entire exhaust system was replaced, one motor mount, and one transmission mount. Along with the fuel tank was removed and steam cleaned, and the original carburetor was completely rebuilt at a cost of nearly a new one. The tires were also replaced at that time and all fluids were replaced with new. Unfortunately when it came time to pay the bill at the mechanic’s shop nearly a year later, the daughter didn’t have the money and forfeited the car to the shop. I bought the car from that shop and received the original title from the original owner and the daughter was named as the survivor which she had signed off on. So the car is a one owner car if that at all matters to you. Ok so I have been driving this Corvette here and there, doing errands with it and I’ve come to the conclusion the car is just too nice to cut up into a road race car. The interior is original and is about an 8 out of a 10, the seats are not ripped, the carpet for the most part is really nice with the exception of a small area in the very back trunk area, that was most likely damaged by the old battery sitting on it. It is in an area you can’t even see but I needed to mention it. All the original gauges and instruments work except for the clock. Even the original radio works as it should but has newer speakers in the rear. The car starts, runs, and drives great just like it should, it shifts perfect, even the steering wheel is dead on in the center while driving down the street. The brakes work great with no side to side pull like so many older cars do. The headlights pop up and down as they should and the highs and lows work fine, everything works except the clock and the A/C. The engine starts right up, whether it’s cold or warm and has a nice performance rumble to it. The only things I could really knock this car with, is the car had been re-painted several years ago and shows signs of garage wear, little scratches here and there and a small blemish in the rear bumper, see the picture. I don’t want to under state how nice it is but it’s not perfect. It’s definitely driver quality, a day at a detail shop would really make this car extremely nice. As you can tell by the pictures I didn’t have time to detail it. I drove it out in what’s left of our green field and took some pictures. So if you are looking for a really nice low mileage numbers matching Corvette that you could get in and drive anywhere, this would be a pretty good candidate. I still plan on fulfilling my plans of building a road race Corvette but it would really be a shame to do that to this car. Besides my wife has been driving it too, and if I don’t sell it soon I’m going to lose it to her, and my racing fund will have to start all over.
