Car history:
From the initial restorer:

The story began in 1970 when a young bride and groom in Fairfield, Illinois bought a NEW 1970 Corvette for their wedding and subsequent honeymoon. They left the church that night and drove to Lake Louise in Bannf, Alberta Ca. Honeymooned there and then off to California to see the beaches they had always heard of, and maybe see the Beach Boys singing in concert. This was their car, their vessel, to travel Route 66 and live the American Dream . Life was good for the next 10 years. She taught high school and he managed a construction co. In 1980 he was killed in a construction accident, & she parked that car in the garage at their house, and it never moved again for 30 years.

Over the next 30 years, a constant stream of hopeful buyers went to her door trying to buy the car, but she could not part with it (way too many memories). A nephew of hers finally got title to the car in 2011..Being a prior customer of Ethan's (our stellar shop manager and Corvette restoration guru and car lover), He came and offered it to us in September 2012, the garage space was needed for someone else. She was selling the house and retiring to somewhere warm.

Realizing that he did not have the resources to do anything with the car, he offered it to us and we accepted. The car though was still in the garage with 4 flat 1970's bias belt tires, frozen brake calipers, no battery and a worthless fuel tank. As we were loading it onto the trailer, a 40-ish policeman pulled up and said: You know you are breaking a hundred hearts of guys who tried to buy this car, including myself. In talking with him I learned he was the neighbor boy whom had tried to buy it since he was 16, but the owner(the wife) did not want to see it driving around her home town because of the memories ( he validated the story that the nephew had told us).

We paid a handsome price for it , but it is a 4spd, air-conditioned 1970 Corvette with the factory drop out and store rear window. Let the restoration begin..Wayne (our head wrench) installed 4 new brake calipers, new fuel tank, new freeze plugs, thermostat, flushed the cooling system 4 times, changed all other fluids, rebuilt the original starter, added a new battery, installed 4 late model radial tires, etc etc etc.. THEN THE MOMENT OF TRUTH - depress the clutch (safety feature in 1970) turn the key and VOILA - THE VETTE starts and runs excellent. A fabulous resurrection.

I drove it through the parking lot and down Apple Shed Road and back, everything was on the path to a fabulous restoration of the rarest of the chrome bumper c-3 models, the 1970 model (lowest production year due to the 6 month strike at the Corvette plant)
