Get into the Corvette hobby for less than the price of a used Chevy sedan with this beautiful 1981 coupe. Brilliant, yet subtlesilver paint, a beautiful red leather interior, and T-tops for the open air experience make this a great-looking summertime cruiser that you’ll enjoy far more than the bargain price would suggest. Although 1981 was nearing the end of the line for the C3, it didn’t diminish the iconic looks one bit, and even today these are perhaps the most distinctive Corvettes ever built. Everyone loves them. And when they look this good, falling in love is easy. In fact, it looks so good that we have to assume it has been repainted, especially since all the pieces are the same color, a feat the factory could never quite master. Gaps are good, the prep was expertly done, and the slinky silver surface is smooth and glossy with no waves or ripples in the fiberglass. It currently wears smoked glass T-tops, but a second set of painted tops are also included, so you can change the look to suit your mood. All the trim is in good condition as well, including the blacked-out rocker panels that add a bit of contrast to an otherwise very monochromatic car. The mileage shown is probably authentic, although this car could easily claim half as many miles based on the condition of the interior. The sumptuous red leather buckets show only light wear, extraordinary for 30 years of entertainment. With the T-tops off, the contrast between the elegant silver and upscale red leather creates a contrast that’s less Corvette and more European blueblood. This one is also loaded with options like power brakes, power steering, power windows, power locks, a tilt wheel, A/C, and a power driver’s seat. The original AM/FM radio has been upgraded to a Pioneer AM/FM/CD head unit that looks right at home in the original console. The 350 cubic inch L81 under the hood was the only choice in 1981. Still wearing a correct Rochester 4-barrel under the twin-snorkel air cleaner, the engine bay is highly original, showing the usual wear but no glaring issues. Lightweight tubular exhaust manifolds were added to all Corvette engines in ’81, adding horsepower and shaving weight, while making aftermarket headers obsolete. 1981 was also the first year for the fiberglass monoleaf spring, which not only improved chassis response, but shaved a considerable amount of weight. Four-wheel discs have been standard equipment since 1965, and the C3s featured some of the most powerful binders of the era. Machined aluminum wheels are just the right compliment to the black paint, and wear 245/60/15 BFG radials. Fast, comfortable, and timeless, this is a great entry-level ‘Vette that delivers true Corvette thrills for not a lot of money. Call today!
