| Car history: |
Posted 03/10/2016 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. White with T-tops. 5.7 liter 350 V-8, Automatic, Power Windows, Power Steering. I purchased this car in 2012 that was in a barn in Oklahoma. It is all original with 85k original miles. It has had no modifications. Everything is stock from the engine, transmission to the radio. I have a ton of paperwork that goes with the car. Including the factory owner's manual, and a Polaroid photo of the car when it was sold to its second owner in 1984. Numbers matching engine and transmission. This is a base model with a few options, like A/C, PW, PB, and Automatic transmission. This is VIN code CLA: 195 horsepower 250 ft. lbs of torque. Turbo 400 transmission. This is the base 350. Like an L-48. When I bought it, the car had not been driven since 1995 or 1996. This was the first year for the rubber bumpers front and back. They had rotted away as they are prone to do. I replaced them with fiberglass units which are much better. In addition, the following has been done to the car since 2012: New brakes, new exhaust, new power steering, new water pump, and new battery, The fuel tank was dropped and cleaned, lines flushed, some were replaced, carburetor was rebuilt, (it is the factory quadrajet) fuel filter replaced, as well as a full tune up. New plugs, wires, cap, coil, etc. The car runs and drives really well. Doesn't smoke. I would drive it anywhere. 1974 was the last year for several things on the Corvette: last year of true dual exhaust and no catalytic converter, last year of a full fiberglass body, (in 1975 they started using metal floorpans as the catalytic converter made the interior of the car too hot) and last year of a mechanical ignition (points). The car is in great shape overall. Headlights and all the lights work in the car as they are supposed to. Sometimes the right front light sticks, but it is nothing major. Has the t-top cover. Interior is cloth and is very clean and nice. Car is registered and titled in Oklahoma where I bought it.
Here are the cons: the A/C does not work, it is all there but needs a charge or conversion to R-134. The paint is average with noticeable scratches and fading. Some of the paint is soft in places. It is the factory paint job, so I did not want to repaint it. You can see the seam where the body was seamed together from the factory. They are only original like this once. There is some rust to the underside of the car as it started life in Michigan and then Minnesota.
There are very few early 1970s C-3's in this original condition. Most of the ones you see have been modified. This one has not. It is stock and original with 85k original miles.
