1) 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe, 4 speed manual, 350 SMALL BLOCK, SIDE PIPES, RALLY WHEELS, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, CLEAN. ORIGINAL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION...74,784 ORIGINAL MILES. THIS CAR WAS STOLEN FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND CONSEQUENTLY WAS ASSIGNED A SALVAGE TITLE. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN A COLLISION. As for the VIN, that is an interesting story. When this car was stolen, the thieves replaced the original VIN plate with one from another '69 Coupe...or, they made it to look just like the original, with proper rivets, too. I bought the car at a salvage auction and after finding out that this stolen VIN did not match either the numbers on the original block, or frame number, which is stamped on the frame inside the left rear fender, nor the title, I went to local law enforcement here in NM and had them verify that this plate was incorrect and to approve the making of a new, correct VIN plate. Subsequently, I found a guy in Colorado who makes reproduction VIN plates. I gave him the certified approval document from the police and he made a new VIN plate. It cost me $200. I was going to replace the stolen VIN plate with the new one, but after I was told by the body shop that it was possible that the windshield could crack, or break during removal or re'installation, I decided that I would just leave it as is, and do later when needed. So, now the new, correct VIN plate is in my safe deposit box at my bank. If I sell the car, I will of course have this new VIN plate installed. I can't tell you the VIN right now, because the title is also in my safe deposit box. I will stop by the bank to day and get it for you. This is the reason I left the VIN number box blank when I listed the car yesterday on ebay. The world is a complicated place! BiN $25,500 (Ended) on June 3, 2018. |
