1972 Corvette convertible equipped with power steering, air conditioning and an automatic transmission. When I acquired this car last year from one of the original family members who purchased it new, the car had the look of a car that had not been serviced for several years. It started, ran and drove, but smoked and the brakes sucked. The plan was to clean it up, fix the smoking problem and make a nice driver out of it. Well, one thing led to another and I ended up doing a body on restoration. When the original engine was removed, I discovered the original water pump was still in place. The engine was completely overhauled with a .030 bore. At the time of the overhaul, new pistons were installed that raised the compression back to just over 9:1 and a cam with more lift and duration was installed. Externally, the engine is completely stock. Internally, it’s more like 300 horse. All new exhaust makes it sound as good as it runs. As the photos indicate, the rear suspension has been completely rebuilt. There are also new brakes all the way around. The interior sports new seat covers and carpets. The door panels are original, as are the dash pads and center console. All of the lights and buzzers work just like they’re supposed to. The headlamps and wiper door snap open and closed just like new and the seat belt retractors work beautifully. The body was completely stripped and repainted (base/clear) this fall in the correct red and new weatherstrip installed. This car is ready to be driven anywhere you want to go. Now for what the car needs: 1.) The tires are older BFG Radial T/A’s. They have tons of tread and aren’t weather checked. But they are old. 2.) The original windshield has wiper marks and the left side windshield molding is scratched. 3.) The original radio is not with the car. It has an old Pioneer Super Tuner that works fine. At least the bezel’s not cut. 4.) There’s 2 side marker light lenses missing, one front and one rear. As the photos indicate, I have the original window sticker and Protect-o-plate. The odometer shows under 60,000 miles and is correct. |
