When Corvette aficionados get together to talk shop, the subject of classic Corvettes will inevitably come up. When it does, it’s a fair bet that the ultimate Corvette will be a topic of discussion. We’re talking about the legendary L-88! This monster was produced for only three years in very limited quantities (’67-20, ’68-80, 69-116) and were strictly race cars that you could drive (barely) on the street. The horse power rating was a joke and listed as 5hp under the L-71 427/435hp engine to discourage the average buyer, who had no idea what this beast really was, from ordering one. The actual horse power was closer to 560! The cars success on the track, both in the 1/4 mile (11.7 @ 120mph bone stock, even the skinny tires) and road course speaks for itself and just mentioning the name L88 still strikes fear in its competitors! All L88’s are special, but this one is a stand out! It’s one of the rarest ever built. One of only a 17 automatics and the only Red L88 Convertible known to exist! An L88 equipped from the factory with a Turbo 400, 3-sp automatic transmission lent itself perfectly for the drag strip! If you add into the equation the fact that this one’s also a convertible, you end up with an even rarer package! It comes with great owner history, original title still with the car, sold new out of Chicago, tank sticker, restored by Tim Thorpe, special collection, Earthquake ’88. Thorpe states the car has its original body panels. Color codes from the trim plate. Assembly date is H06. motor suffix code is T1122MR (Manual transmission, gearbox may have been changed). $69,100.
