1968 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE L-79 327/350 4 SPEED MUNCIE TRANSMISSION #'s MATCH! I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A FRIEND WHO OWNED IT FOR THE PAST 7-8 YEARS. HE PURCHASED IT BECAUSE HE ALWAYS WANTED A CORVETTE AND NEVER CARED ABOUT NUMBERS MATCHING OR ORIGINALITY. HE JUST WANTED A GREAT LOOKING AND GREAT DRIVING CORVETTE. MONTHS AFTER I GOT IT HOME, I BEGAN TO CHECK IT OUT. NOT ONLY IS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION THE ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING, THE ENGINE IS THE OPTIONAL HIGH HORSEPOWER AND DESIRED L-79 327/350hp. THE HEADS ARE THE DOUBLE HUMP #291's HIGHER COMPRESSION. THE BLOCK # IS 3914678 AND THE PAD SUFFIX READS "V0706 HT". THE INTAKE AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE THE ORIGINAL ALSO. AN AFTER MARKET EDelBROCK CARB NOW SITS ATOP THE FACTORY INTAKE. THE BODY WAS BUILT JULY 6, 1968. THIS IS A VERY LATE '68. THE RADIATOR IS THE ORIGINAL WITH PART# AND DATE STAMPED. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, MY FRIEND HAD THE ORIGINAL WATER PUMP, STARTER, AND ALTERNATOR REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, HE DISCARDED THE OLD ORIGINAL PARTS. HOWEVER, THIS VETTE STILL RETAINS ALOT OF ITS ORIGINAL PARTS THAT LOOK AND WORK FINE. THE ORIGINAL ENGINE RUNS FAST AND SMOOTH WITH NO SMOKE BILLOWING OUT THE EXHAUST PIPES. THE ORIGINAL 4 SPEED MUNCIE SHIFTS INTO EACH GEAR WITHOUT ANY EFFORT OR GRINDING. NO CLUNKING COMING FROM THE POSI REAR OR U-JOINTS. THE CAR IS EFFORTLESS AND AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE TO DRIVE. IT GOES DOWN THE ROAD STRAIGHT AND SMOOTH WITH NO PROBLEM OF PULLING AWAY FROM TRAFFIC WHEN CALLED UPON. THE STEERING IS RESPONSIVE WITH LITTLE OR NO PLAY IN THE WHEEL AND IS POWER ASSISTED. THE 4 WHEEL POWER DISC BRAKES WORKS FINE WITH NO SIGN OF LEAKING CALIPERS. THE FRONT SUSPENSION SEEMS TIGHT WITH NO VISiBLE SIGN OF WORN OUT CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS OR ANY OTHER FRONT END PARTS. SURPRISINGLY, THE VACUUM OPERATED HEADIGHTS WORK AS DOES THE WIPER DOOR. THEY BOTH OPEN AND CLOSE! ANYONE WHO OWNS ONE OF THESE CORVETTES(68-72) CAN TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE PROBLEMATIC IN THAT AREA. I SEE NO NEED FOR ANY MAJOR MECHANICAL WORK AT THIS TIME . MY FRIEND ALWAYS HAD THE CAR MAINTAINED PROFESSIONALLY. THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY SAFARI YELLOW AND HAS ONLY BEEN REPAINTED ONCE SINCE NEW. IT WAS REPAINTED APPROX. 10-12 YEARS AGO IN THE ORIGINAL COLOR. THE PAINT IS STILL VERY NICE AND SHINEY AND LOOKS GREAT FOR ITS AGE. HOWEVER, IT'S NOT A NEW PERFECT- FLAWLESS PAINT. I'D RATE IT AS A 7/10. IT IS AS I SAY RESPECTABLE OF ITS AGE! THE FACTORY RIVETS ON THE FRONT OF THE SURROUND PANEL ABOVE THE LEFT HEADLIGHT ARE STARTING TO SHOW DUE TO ITS AGE. THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF ANY MAJOR COLLISION. YOU CAN TAKE THIS VETTE TO ANY LOCAL CAR SHOW AND YOU'LL STILL COME HOME WITH A TROPHY! THE INTERIOR IS CLEAN AND FRESH LOOKING. NEW FRONT LOOP CARPETS. DASH LIGHTS AND GUAGES WORK. THE CLOCK WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. THE SEATS HAVE THE OPTIONAL HEADREST AND ARE RE-COVERED IN LEATHER. NO CRACK IN THE BRAKE CONSOLE. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL 4 SPEED SHIFTER. AN AFTERMARKET WORKING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM HANGS UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP HAS NO RIPS IN IT AND APPEARS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. IT HAS A JVC AM-FM CD SOUND SYSTEM. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS STRAIGHT AND FREE FROM ANY RUST DAMAGE. I SEE NO SIGN OF ANY MAJOR ACCIDENT. THE DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM IN SOLID THROUGH TO THE MUFFLERS. JACK ,SPARE TIRE AND TUB ARE ALL THERE.
