Car history:
This original code 984 Daytona yellow 2 top convertible was repainted back in 1983 or 1984. It's obviously still yellow, but not Daytona, it's brighter, more like Millenium yellow found on a C5. The body is in excellent condition. There are signs of minor repairs in the front wheel openings, but that's about it. The visible bonding strips around the car all appear to be original. All opening panels, including the hood, doors, headlamps, wiper door and decck lid have very nice fit. The paint looks good from about 10 feet, but up close you can see a few chips and imperfections. When this car was repainted it was probably not a $10,000 car so it didn't get a $10,000 paint job. I'd say it's nice driver status paint. No major stress cracks, nothing needing immediate attention and nothing that indicates the car has been smashed and half assed back together. The bumpers appear to be original and are shiny, straight and fit like they're supposed to. The front grilles fit very nice. The lower valance has the typical damage of a car that has been driven and enjoyed. The frame on this car is exceptionally solid and straight. There is a golf ball size dent in one of the side rails (NOT from a crash) and the front bolt in cross member has the typical rust in the corners. The radiator support is solid and straight. The front suspenion, including ball joints, control arm bushings and springs were replace within the last 5 years. As was the soft top, carpets, seat covers and foams. The brake calipers were all rebuilt last week and the entire exhaust system from the original manifolds back was replaced with a custom built 2 1/2" system with stainless steel mufflers. It's not loud, but does have a very nice throaty big block sound. The strut rods were also replaced and a 4 wheel alignment done a couple of years ago. Tires are near new. The car drives excellent. The block, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds are original and correct. The carburetor is not. The odometer shows just over 100,000 miles and I believe it to be correct. The car runs, stops and steers excellent. The power steering is original and has a couple of leaks, but nothing chronic that's going to make a big puddle on your garage floor. The differential is the original 3:08 HD posi and the transmission appears to be the original M21. The rubber shifter boot appears as original, as does the black chrome shifter ball. The original radio works, but I think only one speaker is working. The clock does NOT work, nor does the original oil pressure gauge. There is an aftermarket oil pressure gauge under the left hand side of the dash. The motor carries excellent oil pressure and does NOT run hot. All of the dash lights work, except the high beam indicator. The courtesy lights work off the headlamp switch, but not the drivers door switch. No chips or cracks in the side glass or windshield and the power windows go up and down just like they're supposed to. The AC needs charged, but the clutch does engage when the wheel is rolled to AC. The wiper door and headlamps are a little slow from lack or use but still work like they're supposed to. I haven't had the fuel tank out of the car, but it appears to be original. That being said, I assume the tank sticker is there. I had a camera in around the fuel fill neck boot the other day, but couldn't see it and didn't want to poke around too much for fear of damaging it. This is just a nice original, big block, 4 speed, 2 top, air conditioned, power window, power steering 1969 Corvette that was repainted nearly 30 years ago that looks good and runs, drives, stops, shifts and steers just like it's supposed to. Color codes from the trim plate. Built date is H31. 857 miles from the odometer. April 2, 2010.
