Car history:
Wow, a Corvette roadster with chrome bumpers, a 4-speed, and gorgeous British
Green paint job for a very affordable price? There’s no catch, just a clean, honest
‘Vette that’s a ton of fun to drive and gets you into some of the most enjoyable
car events on the map. The code 983 British Green is this car’s original color, and
it’s easy to see why it was the most popular choice in 1968. Obviously it was GM’s
attempt to capture some traditional sports car fans, and when a car looks this good,
it’s probably safe to say that more than a few guys dumped their MGs for a chance
behind the wheel of America’s fantastic plastic sports car. Finished a few years ago,
this one is ideal for cruising and long-distance touring, and you won’t cry every
time it rains, yet it still looks good enough to make heads turn everywhere it goes.
The substrate appears to be in excellent condition, and when it was restored they
were a lot more careful than the original assembly line so it fits together superbly.
Chrome bumpers are popular with Corvette fans, and as a first-year Sting Ray, it
also offers the trick hidden wipers that notably streamline the whole car’s profile.
A standard black bucket seat interior is anything but “standard” when it’s in a
Corvette. Neatly restored, it offers great comfort and thanks to the woven inserts,
remains cool even on hot days with the top down. Fresh carpets and new door panels
were installed during the restoration as well, and there’s no notable wear to speak
of on any of the major components. It’s quite possible that the gauges are original,
and they all work as they should and even the factory-issued AM/FM radio pulls in
stations loud and clear. The chrome shifter for the original 4-speed is a bright piece
of sculpture in the black interior, and you’ll never grow tired of slicing through the
gears. There’s also a matching black convertible top of indeterminate age that looks
right and seals up as well as any Corvette of this vintage. Power comes from a
correct 327/300 horsepower V8 that has been rebuilt and nicely detailed for use
under the green Corvette’s hood. There’s plenty of chrome, ranging from the air
cleaner to the valve covers to the ignition shielding, and it all looks great next to
the Chevy Orange paint on the block. It shows very few signs of having been driven,
and like any small block Chevy, it starts with a snarl, idles perfectly, and pulls hard
with all 300 horses on duty. The chassis appears quite original and shows no rust
or structural damage, just the way you’d want it. Four handsome Rally wheels wear
wide Uniroyal radials that really stuff the C3’s dramatic wheel wells. Corvette
ownership is within reach, and this one offers perks like a 4-speed and a great
color combination. Call now!
