| With the exception of the legendary L88s, the 435 hp L71 big block is unquestionably the “top dog” of the C3 engine lineup. 1969 was the last year for the celebrated 427ci engine and of the 15,325 big block Corvettes built in 1969 only 2,722 received the L71 427/435 tri-power solid lifter engine. This was the end of the line for the ascent in raw power for the Corvette. An important era in Corvette high performance was drawing to a close.
