Car history:
You are bidding on a 1981 Corvette. I absolutely do not want to sell this car, as
I’m a Corvette collector, but financial hardship forces me to do so. I bought the
car in 2000 after it had sat for 14 years in someone’s backyard, although a very
complete car. Over the years I’ve been actively doing this and that to it, and
driving it off and on the entire time. I have 10 cars and pivot between them; this
'81 was never a daily driver.
The car is completely original; it has not been “altered” or customized.

Positives
What is most amazing about this car is how quiet it is. I’ve been told these cars
rattle a lot – this one DOES NOT. Very solid car and runs very smooth going down
the road. Although she has always idled rough despite the fact I’ve put a new
carb on her. May be a vacuum leak that I’ve never been able to locate.

Interestingly, I thought this was the ONLY LIGHT BLUE CORVETTE made in 1981.
I spent an entire year tracking down information trying to determine if it was THE
CAR. I have the remnants of the tank sticker but you can’t read much of what is
left. I think the car was stolen at some point it its life and recovered because the
VIN sticker is gone and instead a motor vehicle sticker has been put in its place.
This is what made it difficult to determine if it was THE blue car or not.
Interestingly though I did find out that it is probably one of only 7 cars made that
were produced and sold in primer. The car has only been in black primer and
light blue (and I repainted it recently the same light blue). So either way this car
is a rarity. The “X” in the VIN is part of the evidence justifying it as one of the
primer cars. Through all this research I am the third owner of the car. The
original owner was in the military and purchased in it CA. So it’s only ever been
in CA and AZ.

Lots of things have been replaced/fixed on the car both mechanically and aesthetically.
I have a spreadsheet that I keep along with all the receipts. Some of the big
items include:

· PS, PW (although motors are a bit slow), Tilt, Cruise (but it doesn’t work), A/C
(but it doesn’t work), power seat, T-tops.
· New paint job – about three years old now (she is kept indoors so no sun). Paint
was high quality paint, although the paint job is not show quality. Looks nice but
some imperfections here and there.
·Rear end rebuilt – The entire rear end was rebuilt by a professional (the best in
town). Also new rear spring installed with new shocks all the way around.
·New rear exhaust pipe – stainless steel, along with new catalytic converter
·New windshield
·New weatherstripping – I have yet to put the new door weatherstrip in since the
paint job but have it. Other weatherstripping already replaced. The original T-
tops were stolen so I purchased some others, very nice, on ebay and the
weatherstripping on those are pretty decent.
·All sorts of new mechanical parts: carb, charcoal canister, alternator, fan clutch,
starter, waterpump, power steering pieces (all replaced except the cylinder),
brakes and calipers, etc.
·New emblems, new door handles, new window tint, some new interior pieces that
have yet to be installed.
·Tires are not new but still have plenty of tread left on them.

Negatives
I do not know the actual mileage of the car. The odometer has never worked,
despite me putting new speedometer cables in. Must be something in the
transmission. Since it sat for 14 years before I bought it, and I’ve probably only
put about 30,000 on it over the years so it probably has somewhere around
120,000 on it I’d guess but have no idea and cannot verify it in any way. She still
runs strong and does not burn any oil. And, with as solid as she rides, the
suspension can’t have an overabundance of mileage on it.

I have the window trim but it’s still off the car. They have some black paint on
them and I wanted to get that professionally taken off and restored back to the
chrome look – just never completed that after the car was painted. So I have all
the pieces.

The interior carpet is faded. Also the console isn’t in the best shape either. The
interior certainly has some wear. You’ll see the door panels are off but I have
them and they are in decent shape (email me for pics). I never successfully got
the door weatherstripping back in to put the panels back in. The seats backs have
the cloth ripped; the seats themselves are in good shape but they need recovered.

As mentioned above she idles rough. Always has but runs SO SMOOTH. Never
really figured out why but never worried about it because of how good she runs.
Although I bought a professionally rebuilt carb, I’m not sure if the secondaries
open up fully. I don’t know much about quadrajets so don’t know how to properly
tune it. Wanted to keep her original so never switched carbs.

The oil pan leaks; just leaves some drops every time you park her. I believe this
is because of all the years she sat before I bought her in the hot AZ weather and
the gasket dried out. Largely most of the items I replaced were because of things
drying out (like the calipers, valve cover gaskets, power steering, hoses, etc.) So
this is a do for someone for sure. I just never got around to it.

Despite the fact I’ve bought new hood latch cable, the right side doesn’t unlock
when you pull it. I’ve messed and messed with it. Needs some adjustment. Also
the windshield wipers work but you have to toggle the switch from time-to-time.

The air conditioning is intact but does not work. It has never worked since I’ve
owned the car so the entire system needs addressed on some level.

I have more pictures just email me. I will store the car for free for two weeks
ONLY then after that it’s a $5 per day charge UNLESS prior arrangements are made.
You are responsible for shipping the car and making arrangements to ship.
