A STUNNING, TOTALLY RESTORED, ONE OF A KIND, 1971 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY COUPE WITH REMOVABLE T-TOPS AND REAR WINDOW. JUST MADE FOR THAT MOST PARTICULAR INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS BEEN SEARCHING FOR THAT CLASSIC LOOK. THERE IS JUST A LITTLE OVER 7,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE RESTORATION. THIS CAR WAS ALL ORIGINAL WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND WAS STORED IN THE PREVIOUS OWNER’S HEATED GARAGE FOR AT LEAST 10 YEARS. THE ODOMETER READ 15,858 MILES (MAYBE +100 BUT I DON‘T KNOW) PRIOR TO MY COMPLETE FRAME-OFF RESTORATION AND AS OF THIS DATE READS 23,526 MILES (+100). THIS CORVETTE IS A “DRIVER” NOT A “TRAILER QUEEN“ BUT THE FACT IS THAT IS HAS NEVER SEEN A DROP OF RAIN OR A FLAKE OF SNOW OR AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH, AND IS HAND WAXED ONLY. WHEN NOT IN USE, THE CAR STAYS COVERED IN MY HEATED, AIR CONDITIONED.
IT WAS COMPLETED SEVEN YEARS AGO AND IS THE NICEST CHROME BUMPER COLLECTOR CORVETTE YOU COULD EVER FIND. I BUILT THIS CAR FOR MYSELF SUPPOSEDLY TO LAST ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.
THIS LITTLE STINGRAY HAS WON FIRST PLACE IN EVERY CAR SHOW ENTERED (IN IT’S CLASS) BOTH BIG AND LITTLE SHOWS, INCLUDING THE “HUNTER’S EXPO IN NASHVILLE TENNESSEE” MARCH 2005 (IN IT’S CLASS). IT WAS ALSO ON DISPLAY AT THE “CORVETTE 50TH ANNIVERSARY” EXPO IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE JUNE 27/28 2003, AND RECEIVED AN HONORABLE MENTION AMONG THE HUNDREDS OF C-3 CORVETTES THERE.
REASON FOR SELLING: I AM 77 YEARS OLD AND RETIRED FROM THE MUSIC BUSINESS HERE IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. I AM SELLING DUE TO MY HEALTH. I HAD A VERY SERIOUS BACK OPERATION AND HAD TO LEARN TO WALK ALL OVER AGAIN. SOON AFTER THAT I HAD BOTH KNEES REPLACED, LEARNED TO WALK AGAIN. A YEAR LATER MY LEFT KNEE-CAP BROKE IN HALF AND HAD A THIRD OPERATION NOW I HAVE TROUBLE WALKING AT ALL. ALL THIS HAS PROHIBITED ME FROM GETTING INTO MY CORVETTE MUCH LESS DRIVING IT. THE BODY: THIS CORVETTE WAS PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED. THE BODY WAS STRIPPED, DOOR JAMS INCLUDED. THE ENTIRE CAR WAS PRIMED AND PAINTED WITH DUPONT (ORIGINAL) LUCITE LACQUER BLACK #99S PAINT. (BY THE WAY THE ORIGINAL COLOR WAS SUNFLOWER YELLOW, A VERY RARE COLOR IN 1971, ONLY 1177 CARS WERE THAT COLOR, TIED WITH NEVADA SILVER) BUT I WANTED A BLACK CAR. A TOTAL OF 22 COATS OF PRIMER, PAINT AND CLEAR WERE APPLIED, WET SANDED AND BUFFED TO A MIRROR FINISH. THE BODY WAS REMOVED FROM THE FRAME AND REALIGNED. ALL THE BODY LINES NOW ARE BETTER THAN FACTORY. THE DOORS CLOSE LIKE REFRIGERATOR DOORS.
FOR SHOW PURPOSES THE HOOD (ONLY THE HOOD) WAS PROFESSIONALLY (ART) PAINTED WITH GHOST LACE FLAMES (SEE PHOTOS). I WILL LEAVE THESE ON THE CAR WHEN SOLD. THE NEW OWNER HAS THE OPTION TO LEAVE THEM OR JUST RE-PAINT THE HOOD. ONE GALLON OF 99S PAINT WILL BE PROVIDED WITH THE CAR. (THE FLAMES WON AN AWARD OF THEIR OWN).
A NEW “LIBBEY OWENS” WINDSHIELD WAS INSTALLED ALONG WITH NEW DELCO WS WIPER ARMS AND WIPER BLADES. A NEW W.S. WIPER MOTOR AND SWITCH WERE ALSO INSTALLED.
FRAME, SUSPENSION AND EXHAUST: THE FRAME IS ROCK SOLID AND ABSOLUTELY RUST FREE. IT WAS STEAM CLEANED AND RE-PAINTED BLACK. ALL FRONT END SUSPENSION PARTS WERE REPLACED, SHOCKS ARE MONROE HD GASMATICS, ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS, NEW SPRINGS, IDLER ARM, TIE ROD END KIT, BALL JOINTS, BUSHINGS. ALSO INSTALLED IS A NEW STEERING BOX, ALL STEERING COMPONENTS, LINES AND ACCESSORIES.
THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS A CORVETTE ALUMINIZED CHAMBERED DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM WITH 2.5 INCH PIPES FRONT TO BACK WITH FACTORY NEW “160221” STAINLESS STOCK TIPS. DRIFT BACK TO THE 70’S, THE TONE IS CORVETTE MUSIC TO THE EARS.
WHEELS, TIRES, BRAKES AND FUEL: ALL NEW BRAKES INCLUDING CALIPERS, ROTORS AND GM PADS. DIFFERENTIAL: THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS PROFESSIONALLY REBUILT BY OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER’S EXPERT AUTHORIZED CORVETTE MECHANIC USING ALL NEW GM PARTS, INCLUDING NEW BEARINGS, CLUTCHES, AND NEW RING AND PINION GEARS. THE ENTIRE DRIVE TRAIN HAS JUST OVER 7,500 MILES ON IT. ALL 6 UNIVERSAL JOINTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND ALL 3 DRIVE SHAFTS WERE INSPECTED AND BALANCED.
BUMPERS: BOTH FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT BUMPERS INCLUDING NEW NUTS, BOLTS AND WASHERS.
ENGINE: THE ENGINE IS A PROFESSIONALLY BUILT STOCK 350 CU IN. 4 BOLT MAIN ENGINE, 293 HORSE POWER WITH TORQUE 342 @ 4500 RPM, BORED.030 WITH ALL NEW FORGED TRW PISTONS. A (270 DURATION) GENERAL KINETICS #CIH- 270-S CAMSHAFT AND LIFTER KIT SYSTEM MATCHES A CORVETTE GM #3896929 STOCK 71 CAM.
WEIAND INTAKE MANIFOLD, (I HAVE THE CAST IRON ORIGINAL IF WANTED) AND A NEW 750 HOLLEY CARBURETOR WITH AN EDELBROCK ELECTRIC CHOKE KIT.
THE BLOCK IS A REPLACEMENT, REASON BEING, THE FACTORY BLOCK WAS UNUSABLE DUE TO A CAST/POURS CYLINDER. OTHERWISE THIS WOULD BE A NUMBERS CAR. BUT THE BLOCK ITSELF IS A (PROPER PERIOD ENGINE) DATE CODE TO A 1971 CORVETTE #3970010 STOCK 4 BOLT MAIN ENGINE. THE CRANKSHAFT IS THE STOCK ORIGINAL, IT WAS CLEANED, TRUE-CHECKED AND POLISHED ONLY. ALL FEL-PRO GASKETS.
DISTRIBUTOR: STOCK GM (CAME WITH THE CAR) REBUILT MECHANICAL, SPECIAL 90 DEGREE TACH DRIVE WITH NEW TACH CABLE. THE POINTS SYSTEM WAS REPLACED BY A PERTRONIX “IGNITOR” ELECTRONIC IGNITION.
HEADS: THE CYLINDER HEADS ARE THE FACTORY STOCK CAST #3973487 HEADS THAT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH THE CAR. THEY WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND WERE ALSO PROFESSIONALLY REBUILT WITH ALL NEW GUIDES, VALVES, PUSHRODS, ROCKER ARMS AND MATCHING COMP VALVE SPRINGS TO MATCH THE CAMSHAFT. THE VALVE COVERS ARE STOCK ALUMINUM FINNED FACTORY CORVETTE COVERS. ALL HEAD BOLTS AND HARDWARE ARE NEW. MANY GM PARTS USED THROUGHOUT THIS BUILD! ALL FAN BELTS REPLACED NEW BY DAYCO TOP DOG BELTS. SOME PULLEYS ARE NEW. NEW POWER STEERING KIT “VBP INC.”
COOLING SYSTEM: THE WHOLE COOLING SYSTEM HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE RADIATOR IS A BRAND NEW WALKER RADIATOR. STAYS NICE AND COOL ALONG WITH A HEAVY DUTY WATER PUMP AND A NEW HEATER CORE, WORKS GREAT, ALL NEW UPPER AND LOWER HEATER HOSES WERE REPLACED WITH GATES HOSES WHICH INCLUDES A WINTER/SUMMER SHUT-OFF VALVE (KEEPS CORVETTE INTERIOR COOLER) AND NEW FAN SHROUD WITH STAINLESS CORVETTE NAME PLATE.
AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATER: HERE YOU GO PEOPLE, A CORVETTE WITH REAL FACTORY COLD AIR! THIS IS A BLESSING! AN ORIGINAL AIR CONDITIONED CAR. THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS ALL BRAND NEW AND IS WORKING PERFECT LIKE A NEW CAR SHOULD! “BLOWS NICE COLD AIR“. WITH A #156188 AC DELCO EVAPORATOR CORE, CONDENSER, EXPANSION VALVE, ALL OTHER PARTS FROM “COLD AIR PRODUCTS INC.” (NOTE; AT THE CORVETTE EXPO, OUT OF ALL THE C-3 CORVETTES ON DISPLAY, HUNDREDS, (THIS WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH FACTORY AIR THAT WORKED AND DID NOT HAVE THE BELT CUT).
T-TOPS AND DOORS: BOTH T-TOPS HAVE BEEN PAINSTAKINGLY DISASSEMBLED PAINTED INSIDE AND OUT AND REBUILT. LATCHES AND OTHER HARDWARE WERE REPLACED WHEN NECESSARY WITH NEW PARTS. ALL NEW RUBBER WEATHER STRIPPING AND SEALS INSTALLED. BRAND NEW “STORING TYPE” COVERS COME WITH THE T- TOPS (SEE PHOTO).
THE DOORS WERE BOTH COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED INSIDE AND OUT, PRIMED AND PAINTED. ALL INTERIOR DOOR AND WINDOW REGULATOR PARTS, LATCH AND LOCKING MECHANISM PARTS, BOLTS, NUTS AND SCREWS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS. THE WINDOWS WERE RETAINED BECAUSE THEY WERE IN PERFECT CONDITION. ALL NEW WINDOW FELTS, WEATHER STRIPPING AND SEALS WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH NEW DOOR LIGHT PUSH SWITCHES. TWO BRAND NEW “MID AMERICA” STOCK SMALL HEAD, REAR VIEW MIRRORS ALL NEW LIGHT BULBS THROUGHOUT.
THE REMOVABLE REAR WINDOW WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE AND JUST NEEDED TLC, CLEANING UP, WAXING AND A NEW WEATHER STRIPPING SEAL INSTALLED ON THE BODY, (SEE PHOTO, SHOWS WINDOW AND WORKABLE STORAGE BIN).
INTERIOR: THE INTERIOR LOOKS STOCK AND GREAT WITH NEW PARTS AND OLD PARTS COMBINED AND HAS A BEAUTIFUL STOCK PATINA APPEARANCE. ALL NEW BLACK CARPETS INSTALLED THROUGHOUT WITH ALUMINUM HEAT SHIELD SUB- PADDING BETWEEN THE FIBERGLASS AND THE CARPETING. CORVETTE FLOOR MATS, SEE PHOTO) NEW “AL KNOCH” DOOR PANELS. THE SEAT UPHOLSTERY IS ITALIAN LEATHER. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS COMPLETELY RESTORED WITH NEW GAGES, SPEEDO AND TACH PARTS AND CABLES. THE CENTER DASH HAS BEEN REPLACED. A NEW RADIO WAS INSTALLED (NOT CARVED INTO THE DASH) WITH AN AM/FM AUTO/REVERSE CASSETTE STATE-OF-THE ART SYSTEM. THIS IS AN AFTER MARKET “CUSTOM AUTOSOUND” STOCK APPEARING RADIO WITH A JENSEN 4 SPEAKER SYSTEM AND NEW ANTENNA, PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED (TWO HIDDEN REAR SPEAKERS).
